C.J. Cron has been the Angels’ primary designated hitter since debuting in May of last season, but he’s struggled following a decent rookie showing and now he’s been demoted back to Triple-A.

Cron was billed as a potential middle-of-the-order slugger when the Angels drafted him with the 17th overall pick in 2011, but his lack of plate discipline was a red flag in the minors and he’s basically swung at everything in the majors.

He’s hit .241 with 12 homers and a .400 slugging percentage in 110 games, which is poor production for a DH, but the bigger issue is that Cron has drawn a grand total of 12 walks in 355 trips to the plate on the way to a hideous .270 on-base percentage. That includes an ugly 23/2 K/BB ratio this season.
