Losing was bad enough the past two seasons, but there were questions about effort and preparation, too. Sometimes it seemed certain players spent more time on cellphones, iPads and laptops than in batting cages, pitching meetings or the weight room. "There were rules, but there were no repercussions if you didn't follow the rules," said former Diamondbacks closer Chad Qualls, now a reliever with the San Diego Padres, whom the Diamondbacks played Thursday at the Peoria Sports Complex. "There was no accountability. I definitely think it was a little too loose. Looking back on it, maybe there needed to be a few more strict rules to be enforced."
