OT Art Neville RIP

From the Meters to the Neville Brothers Art was considered by many to be not only a great ambassador for New Orleans but a sort of godfather of funk keyboard playing...his brother Charles died in 2018.....riverman is a huge fan of these guys and what they brought to the gumbo...strangely I just pulled out a Neville Brothers live CD and played it yesterday for the first time in ages....synchronicity

My wife and her sis saw Aaron in Nashville back in April. Said he was amazing. Conversely, my brother-in-law says he sounds like he's singing while his nuts are being squeezed.

 

My wife hates his tremolo….I love it...I think it sparks her motion sickness or something

 

Tremolo. Never had heard that term before. I've always thought it was a warbly vibrato.

 

Tremolo = The sound a male singer makes when his nuts are being squeezed.

 

In his case I use tremolo because he doesn't just use it at the end of a phrase or crescendo...he does it all the time....my tremolo on my vox amp does the same thing essentially but you're correct...vibrato is for shaking the note at the end of striking it...Aaron starts phrases with it...lot of Sam Cooke in Aaron Neville's singing style

 

Hey, I know that sound from first hand experience. Don't forget, I had a mean ex wife.

 

I enjoy the vibrato of violins, as well.

 

I may take up the cello one day in my retirement....the positioning works for me...my wrist has a hard time with the violin under the chin....beautiful instruments...Joshua Bell's soundtrack to the movie "The Red Violin" is stunning.....you live in Nashville you've probably heard Mark O'Connor...multi instrumentalist who performed with many greats...David Grisman ...etc

 

Hmm..I have not heard of him. But, I've only lived here a few years...and most of that time I've been involved in my perpetual honeymoon.

Not certain why I am even reminded of this, but when I was living in Oregon and conversing with my now wife in Tennessee, I heard a song, "Wish I Knew You" by The Revivalists. I sent it to her and she absolutely loved it. It's kind of become one of our "theme" songs. We're going to see them in concert (outdoors) here later this summer....
