fter needing the bullpen to cover four innings Tuesday night, the Cardinals will need reinforcements for two injured relievers -- and it could be awhile before either is back.

Cardinals reliever Bryan Augenstein will go on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strain in his right groin. Lefty Brian Tallet fractured a bone in his right hand, and the Cardinals could place him on the DL this morning as well. General manager John Mozeliak said Tallet will be re-evaluated after visiting with team doctors in St. Louis on Wednesday, and because the injury is on his glove (right) hand they want to check to see if it's possible he'll be back sooner than two weeks.

Augenstein will also head back to St. Louis on Wednesday to gauge the severity of the tear in his groin. The diagnosis "strain" is a wide-ranging term used to describe a muscle tear. Regardless of the extent of the tear, it will be referred to as a "strain".

Mozeliak said the initial sense is the injury is "severe."

"The hardest part is pushing off, obviously," Augenstein said. "That's what gets it."

The Cardinals are expected to bring two pitchers to Phoenix from the Class AAA roster in case Tallet also goes on the disabled list. Fernando Salas is line to get the promotion, and Eduardo Sanchez will also be considered and could be part of the traveling party from Triple-A Memphis. If Tallet goes on the DL, both are expected to be activated in time for Wednesday's 8:40 p.m. St. Louis time game against the Diamondbacks.
