Aussie Rules Football not your thing? Looking for a sport that's a little more familiar? The Australian National Rugby League is currently still running. This is not the rugby that the All Blacks or American colleges play, that's Rugby Union, this is Rugby League. Although there are many rule differences between League, and Union, the basic skill set is the same. Mostly the rules differences make League faster. As with the AFL, the Saturday and Sunday afternoon games will work well for you, being on Friday and Saturday night PDX time. Watch here: https://www.watchnrl.com/ Round 1 was played before the government mandated gathering limits.
Im gonna be such a big fan of Australian sports when this over. I’ll be like what the heck is the NBA?
I saw a League match in Sydney. I also saw Australia play France (Union) in Sydney. I think I prefer Union to League, but both are rad. 7's is kinda lame in my opinion, but maybe I haven't watched enough of it. I'm not sure this video clears things up for anyone not familiar with with at least one of the codes.
I think we’ll played Union (with lots of passing and tries) is better than League, but well played Union is few and far between these days. I think average League is more entertaining than average Union.
Even though the AFL has suspended their league, the NRL thinks they can somehow still continue to play. Their line is that the government hasn't specifically told us to stop, so we'll keep playing. The cynic in me feels that they want the government to tell them to stop, so as to reduce their liability.
The NRL has started up again. No crowds, and piping in crowd noises, should be like an OKC home game.
I was an All Blacks Rugby Union fan for several years when livin' overseas....have to give the Rugby League a shot...my Kiwi relatives always looked down on Rugby League in favor of Rugby Union so I never checked it out...no excuses now
I saw the French win the 6 Nations Rugby crown *I think it's 7 nations now" and World Cup in the same year...man were my French friends unbearable that year....
I like that it's a player's game....only time outs are when someone gets carried off the field pretty much..you can get knocked down and get up and go again...way better than American football in my view
I watched one of the highlight matches but there were no kicks through the uprights....don't they do that in Ruby League or do they just highlight tries...not kicks.?
They're worth less points than in Union, so they don't highlight them, unless it's a game winning kick. Try conversions, and penalties are worth 2 points, field goals are worth 1 point. In Union every kick is worth 3 points.
You’ve got to touch the ball on the ground to score. If you don’t “ground” the ball, no points. In some clips you’ll see the defenders get their hands under the ball to stop the score.
Real opportunity lost not calling it arugby. Australian National Arugby League! "Hey honey, is it okay to have some of the guys over for ANAL?"
