Came across it today on my YT recommendations list.

What a great opportunity to revisit so many great players from the past in one game, I even love the camera work.

Hope someone else gets the same warm cozy feeling i got from watching this.

This was when the NBA was at its absolute best. The big men could do it all. Defend, pass, shoot..... I miss that NBA. The current league sucks balls.

The reason why I think that was the absolute best time was because look at the balance of talent.

    Hall of fame shooting guards.

    Hall of fame point guards.

    Hall of fame forwards.

    Hall of fame centers.

Across the board, you have some of the best to ever play their position. Just amazing.

Garnett, Webber, Duncan.... when will we ever see three big men with the complete package of passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense out on the floor together?

I miss this nba. So many amazing players.

But theo ratliff, anthony mason and antonio davis making the team is kinda funny. They were good players sure. But not really what i think of when i think all star.

Ray Allen would destroy the league of today. Hell, Michael Finley would average 30 probably.

The NBA tends to go through phases..... right now we're in a point guard Renaissance, but at that moment there were truly great players at every position. I think the 96 draft might be the best draft of all time.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
The current crop of big men could be pretty special--Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kristaps Porzingas, DeMarcus Cousins and, if he can stay healthy, Joel Embiid are all pretty freakish talents.

This is always the pitfall of comparing "the current generation" to past generations--the current generation always seems meh because they're only at the start of their careers, they don't have the aura of legend that comes from looking back over everything the accomplished. Talent-wise, though, I think the current generation of big men stacks up well with Garnett/Duncan/Nowitzki/Webber or even with Robinson/Olajuwon/Ewing/O'Neal/Mourning of the 1990s.

This past all-star game was probaby the worst I've seen. No defense and no pride. Glorified dunk contest.

    I wish players cared more.

I was surprised Ray Allen could dunk like this. His head was almost touching the rim!
Marbury was such a fearless talent when he played for the Nets, too bad his legacy is so shitty now...

Was also surprised that i enjoyed the 1 on 1,post ups and back to the basket plays more than i enjoy today's threes and illegal screens contests.

It was so cool how they used to wear their own team's jersey in the all star game in those days, now they just wear some ugly ass generic ones every year.

I know I think about that every year. They should wear an all star game version of their own team's jersey. On one hand, I think it would connect with the fans of the teams that are represented. On the other, maybe it's not so great to be reminded your team isn't. Still, I liked it better before.

I completely understand it. The 82 game schedule is a serious grind, players are already dealing with minor injuries and get worn out over the course of the season. None of them are going to want to add an 83rd game's worth of effort for a game that means nothing. And the first time a player sustains a serious injury in it is probably the last time players attend the event, heh.

I would put Davis on the same level as those guys...... but I'm not so sure about the rest of them.

if they did the all star game for the NBA like they do for the MLB, it would be worth watching cause they might actually play defense.

I forgot how good Kidd was. Also the ASG needs to go back to allowing them to wear their own team uniforms.
