Does sending him and Caleb open up roster spots?

Is this a trade pre cursor or is that just wishful thinking?

Thats a good move for him I think, he needs to play. I only hope he can stay composed.

You think the two rookies would be sent down before Baldwin.

what are the implications to our roster? Would this in any way indicate a subsequent impending move?

Perhaps Caleb just needs a buddy? It's really interesting why they announce this now, and Caleb a few days ago?

No, it doesn't open up roster spots.

It's possible we're sending them to showcase on other team's G-League affiliates but who knows. We have 3 games in 4 days so it's weird to send them down now.

Not weird in my opinion. They need minutes and they aren't getting minutes here.

I think they want the rookies to be with the team learning good habits.

Yes but we just had 3 days in between games, why assign him the day of a game when we have 3 in 4 days?

Doesn't matter if it was 5 games in 4 days. They weren't going to play.

Also, it's hilarious that Woj tweets about both Caleb and Wade's assignments to the G League while ignoring the 50 other transactions that happen every month between NBA teams and their affiliates. Similar to him randomly tweeting about Kyle Lowry not playing that night in POR while not mentioning the 10 other games Kyle has missed. Or his tweet about Seth Curry getting an MRI when no one gave a damn.

Neil and Woj are so interlocked it's scary. Why haven't we put this connection to good use?

There might be a lot of reasons why they got sent down. Maybe they might be thinking neither Baldwin and Swanigan no longer in the team future or show them possible in player add in a bigger trade. But it don't mean the rookies going get any more minutes than have. But I guess we going wait and see approach.

I'm thinking maybe to try to get them in something closer to game shape and simply get them playing basketball. You can't expect a guy who hasn't played competitive basketball in months to walk out on the court and keep up with the big boys.

Not really as there will be little time for practices and Swanigan and Baldwin haven't gotten any reasonable playing time other than garbage minutes in blowouts.

I just looked at the Texas Legends schedule and they haven't had a game since December 29th and don't play again till tomorrow. With the days off the Blazers have had it makes more sense to keep Baldwin in Portland to practice and then send him out now before they play tomorrow.

Quality practice time during an NBA season is scarce. Maybe they wanted to get them some practice time with the A-Team before sending them down to scrimmage with the G-Team?

Doesn’t open up roster spots but it does mean both Trent and Simons will be active. Wouldn’t read much else into it. I don’t think the g league is good for rookies anyway, it’s much better for guys like Swanigan and Baldwin, guys that need to play and showcase themselves.

I wonder if Harkless got cleared to play in back-to-backs because if he sits out tomorrow that only leaves 10 normal rotation guys and the 2 rookies. We are playing Houston though with a red hot James Harden. Maybe Baldwin was sent down so Stotts doesn't have to explain why he didn't try using Baldwin to defend Harden (I'm joking... mostly).
