The Blazers have no Draft Picks this year but there are a number of teams in the 2nd Round that have multiple picks (Boston with 5 in the 2nd Round alone) that might be available for Sale/Trade. Which pick would you like to get and who would you take there? BOS - #31, #35, #45, #51, #58 MIL - #36, #38 NOP - #39, #40 HOU - #37, #43 ORL - #41, #47 UTA - #42, #52, #60 ATL - #44, #54 DEN - #53, #56 That is 8 teams with 20 picks. I can't believe Portland couldn't get one of those if they even remotely wanted....especially Boston's. A lot of possibilities there.
Anything before 45 would be great. Outside of the obvious guys we'd like such as GP2 or Maker, I'd like to take a chance on LeVert.
Joel Bolomboy - freak athlete and Weber State grad! Georges Niang - new school shooting big man Malcolm Brogdon - very Wesley-like?
I don't follow college basketball a lot, but if we get a pick in the middle of the 2nd round, I'd take a serious look at A.J. Hammonds from Purdue. He's limited offensively, but has that mid-range jumper Plumlee lacks. The reason to take him is his size and shot blocking. He has NBA size (7'0" 278) and is a great shot blocker. With that size, he should also be able to set brick wall screens for our guards. He's an older 4-year player, and that often means limited upside, which is why he'll fall to the 2nd round, but we won't get a star drafting that late, so might as well go for a solid prospect that fills our need for size and rim protection. Are we going to have a roster spot available? Kaman is likely gone and probably Henderson. Those two probably get replaced in free agency. We have youth and not sure how much more we can develop.
We may end up using our cap space in a lop sided trade that requires us to include some of our young prospects (like Alexander and/or Montero). We may also have to renounce Meyers to clear cap space if we go the free agent route. So, we may end up going pick shopping to fill out the end of our bench. BNN
Joel Bolomboy - freak athlete and Weber State grad! Dame would like that. Georges Niang - new school shooting big man. Not very big for a 'big man'. Malcolm Brogdon - very Wesley-like? Nice wing-span for 6'5".
Would love to get him in the 2nd round but I don't think he lasts that long and if he does, he goes early in the 2nd.
#35 or #38, Boston is going to package a few of those picks into a trade. Might as well be us. Neil ..... where are you?
Boston it going to look for a home run with someone like Boogie. SAC will once again be rebuilding (how can you rebuild something that was never built?) and looking for picks and young players on cheap contracts. I doubt if we get any picks directly from BOS, after all, 2nd rounders aren't guaranteed contracts, so BOS can stash players in Europe, but we may get a 2nd round pick or two by acting as a facilitator in a 3-way or 4-way trade. This is typical Neil, basically lend a helping hand and get a little something for our trouble. BNM
I wonder if the Blazers might try to use the 2018 pick they got from the Cavs as trade bait to get into the first round this year.
Id assume roberts is gone. Hendo and kaman as you said. And honestly i wouldnt be sad if pat, montero, or cliff were cut (even though most around here seem to be in love with montero)
That is like Neil to get something for facilitating. What happened to the days where Paul just flat out bought picks? Anyone going to be surprised to see Tim Frazier back here as a back-up PG instead of Roberts?
I look at making the playoffs as the financial payoff to offset buying a pick that we lost as a result. If one is available, I don't see PA blinking regardless of roster flexibility.
But most good players in Europe that aren't projected to go in the first round pull out of the draft now. Those second round picks aren't worth what they used to be. Like that Spanish player we took last year. What are the odds he ever plays here?
Random names in the 2nd that could be interesting: GPII Thon Maker Caris Levert Prince Ibeh, seems like a boom or bust. Likely bust, but could be one of those like whiteside who 4 years or so after the draft, figures things out. Or, he could be in China. Chinanu Onuaku
