I love this, if true: "Thybulle is in the same region and time zone, so no one should be more familiar with him than the Blazers. Thybulle skipped the combine, giving the impression that a team has a promise in place somewhere in the 20s to take him. There's speculation that team is the Blazers who had a similar player in Nicolas Batum a few years back." ---Nbadraft.net FWIW -- Last year's 'Draft Buzz' from Nbadraft.net made a similar claim on the morning of the draft: the Blazers promised Swanigan.
He certainly fits our mold of 4 years kids. Him and Jaylen Hoard as a 2nd rounder and I can live with this draft.
I picked this guy for OKC in the mock. I like the Tony Allen comps. The only reason to move Turner now is to open up a full MLE or in a trade for a larger salary/impact player. You see that happening?
He has been on my short list for the Blazers. I think he is a good get at 25 along with a few others. 7' wing for a guard is pretty good. (same wing as Harkless) Decent ball handler for a 3 and D type player. Although he will have to improve his 3 point shooting to really be effective in the NBA.
Washington play zone defense all year long so I can see that can he do that up here we will see. He got good instinct and he looks like he can anticipate where the ball is going another good thing.
His stats are so weird. He somehow got worse as a shooter but better as a defender as the years went by???
It looks fine to me. Nothing crazy like an MKG. I don't follow college much but it looks like Washington played zone a ton. Does that contribute to his defensive stats?
his draft stuff says he was a key cog in their 2-3. Prolly inflates his steal numbers a bit, but he's got ridiculously quick hands from the vids I've seen. And his timing on blocks is excellent. So many jumpshots he gets to as well. Half of defense is mindset too, and he clearly seems to have the mental part down. If Roberson can be a 10mil/yr rotational player, so can this guy.
Like Okpala, I wouldn't be heartbroken to see Thybulle land with the Blazers, but there are several guys I like much more. He looks like he could be an elite defender, but he's played zone all through college, and I don't know if he gives you enough offense even if he does reach his defensive potential.
There’s enough in his percentages/form to be optimistic he could develop into a more consistent shooter. Not sure I believe the promise bit though. Olshey has said in the past they don’t give promises to prospects. They did say “speculation” so it’s probably just a guess.
Did they promise Simons last year? I don’t know if it was reported as a promise but by draft day everyone knew Portland was picking Simons.
