Boston Globe At the bottom of this page there is an indication that Blazers want to trade young players for veterans so they don't have to pay the young players big contracts. Not sure if I believe the reason for the trade inquiries, but I guess Outlaw, Frye, Blake and Diogu all have contracts expiring in the next two years.
There were some rumors about acquiring Jason Kidd. http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1767568#post1767568
Actually, that article says we didnt inquire about kid. "However, it's factually flawed as well as logically unsound. According to a Mavericks source, the Blazers have not inquired about Kidd's availability;"
on blazers podcasts, they keep mentioning shawn marion and vince carter as vets to aquire realistically. the 2nd of those options would be a dream come true
Either of those players would be a significant upgrade. I just wonder about both players attitudes when the team is losing.
Jason Kidd is the obvious choice, IMO. He makes everyone on his team better. It'll be interesting too to see how Brandon's game develops next to a true PG like Jason Kidd. We can throw them Raef, and anyone outside the obvious (including Batum and Bayless). His trade value isn't where it was and they shouldn't ask for everything and the kitchen sink. The Mavs did have a ton of interest in Petteri Koponen this summer.
Both players are coming from situations where the team is going to lose at least as many games as the Blazers this year... and if we added either of these guys to the starting lineup, I think they'd be excited at the near-term (as well as long-term) prospects of the team. I don't see either of these guys as a "dream come true", personally, but I'd definitely move Outlaw + Raef for either... no more than that, though. Ed O.
I don't see KP dealing the following players: *Greg Oden *Brandon Roy *LaMarcus Aldridge *Rudy Fernandez *Jerryd Bayless *Nicolas Batum I think everyone else is up for grabs, including draft picks and stashed players overseas (Koponen, Freeland).
Agreed. Joel is not gong anywhere, I dont think even when Oden gets healthy we can afford to move him.
And I don't think we can trade Webster that easily -- given his recent extension. I don't know the CBA that well, but he is now a BYC player, isn't that true?
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=454~2015~136&teams=17~17~22&te=&cash= that is the deal I always thought would help both teams. Nets get clear cap space for lebron and a very nice piece in Outlaw. and Portland gets a guy who they could count on for some scoring and who is a willing passer and true team player. for those who actually watch vince in jersey, most agree he has been the utmost professional there and has barely missed any games. over the past 4 years, hes missed 14 games, tied for fifth among the league. I think that would help both teams
alot of people are against vc, but i think he would be a mojor upgrade at the sf spot. people still cling to his injury history, but he has been more than reliable in new jersey, and is still a great scorer and passer, as well as a great halcourt scoring option. i dont think he has ever played with as much talent as is ontland right now, and would be extremely motivated to prove all his doubters wrong and lead the blazers deep into the playoffs. that being said, i think nj would want a little more for him at this point though.
I'd do Martell, Channing, Raef for Vince Travis takes over as backup PF PG-Bayless/Sergio/Blake SG-Roy/Rudy SF-Vince/Batum PF-LMA/Trav/Randolph C-Oden/Joel/Ike I really like that 2nd unit..the only thing about vince is his contract..4 more years remaining..yikes
I think some of you are crazy for wanting Vince. He has four years left on a hefty contract. Since when was he considered a leader? Vince would have been a good addition 6 years ago. Today? I don't think so.
vince has never played with a good low post presence either. Antonio Davis? Jason Collins? Hes always the focus on the defense. If you pair vince with Oden and Aldrige, Roy and Vince would be deadly and teams would have to pick their poison.
How many firsts do the Nets get in that deal? 4? 5? You need to add in 1 of Rudy or Bayless plus a lotto protected first for that to be plausible.
I think Vince would actually fit in pretty well here. Despite his flaws, he's a very good scorer who is not selfish. However, I don't see the Nets trading him for so little. Even if they want the cap space, I suspect they can get more for him. Plus, he's a big draw for ticket sales which I'm sure the management likes in Jersey. He's not my ideal choice, but for the right price could really help the team.
