great list CC....hard to argue with it

not sure about Leroy Ellis. Is 1 year enough? Jermaine O'Neal was a Blazer for 4 years...and yeah, I know why he wasn't on the list. Moses Malone was a Blazer for an off-season. Speaking of O'Neal, Dale Davis was fairly solid for Portland

Bowie was actually a fairly dominant defender and rebounder when he was healthy. But maybe his bets value was getting traded for Buck Williams who became the Blazer glue-guy

Maybe not...but he was an innaugral Blazer and he had the stats. Jermaine O'neal was predominantly a power foward with the Blazers and Pacers. He will be included in that list.

I thought about putting Moses on there in the honorable mentions. Had he played longer than a preseason he would have been on there. He is one of the best bigs to play the game. He will appear in an upcomming Blazers Biggest Blunders article.

    Dale sits around 12

Bowie was a damned good center. If he could have stayed healthy, he would have been something great. As it is we got Buck Williams.

Walton: "A rebellious relentless force, unstoppable by virtually any player, thwarted by his own body, the one block he could not circumvent."

    That is a great sentence.

Lloyd Neal played Center and PF did all the tip offs, his numbers probably wont put him on any list except the heart and soul and spark list. Anyone who watched him play or listened to Schonley on the radio knows he was in on every defensive play. Another victim of bad knees. He needs to bump someone off that list. Top 5 of favorite Blazers to watch of mine. He got hurt in the Championship year but he organized the street party in Portland when they won.

    Two confusing parts:

    “1997-88” season re Duckworth?

And what do the Spurs have to do with Thompson winning a championship?

As soon as they went Sam Bowie and Tom Owens i pretty much quit reading and skimmed through the rest. Those two didn't belong on a top ten list at all. Not to mention a guy that played 74 games in 70' named Leroy Ellis. I hardly think Steve Johnson belong either but he did make it 3 seasons and 194 games so maybe in the top 10 but not in my #6 spot. Might as well have put Theo Ratcliff on there.

I guess my question would be: what Blazer centers do you think belong in the top 10 list instead of Bowie and Owens? I assume you think RoLo should be higher, which is fine. But if the two you named don't belong on the list, who should replace them?

Good article, Chris. I think Nurk is better than Duck, but that’s a debatable quibble. Too bad Sabonis didn’t come over when he was younger or I have no doubt he be number one by a wide margin.

Gotta give you crap about the Steve Johnson bit. “Oregon University”? Both Beavers and Ducks will curse you for that mashup. ;)

Hes outside of the top ten, but I should have included him in the mentions. He still has several records on the Blazers leader board. His knee injury fucked up his career, and kept around 5 ppg and 7 rppg for his averages.

I’d rank Ellis, Owens and Bowie higher.

You are welcome to your opinion. A lot of research went into to compiling that list. Who are your top 10?
