Andrew Bogut has spoken with Perth coach Rob Beveridge in an attempt to convince him to play for the Wildcats in the upcoming NBL season.

Bogut would have to fork out the insurance cover for his multi-million dollar NBA contract, with early estimates suggesting that could be in the vicinity of $500,000.

"Signing Bogut would be like Perth Glory signing (David) Beckham," CEO Nick Marvin said on Friday.

"It would change the landscape of sport in WA.

"But we are on the borderline in (terms of) having room in the cap for Bogut, both in points and salary cap.

"We have asked the NBL to give us an official ruling on that. That is by far the greatest stumbling block we have.

"The half-a-million dollars (to pay for his insurance) is going to be more of an effort goal. We don't have half-a-million dollars, but I'm hoping that if someone like Bogut came to Perth, we could raise that money through corporate and government support."
