<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Cotton undecided on next school Michigan State freshman point guard Brandon Cotton is transferring, the school announced Thursday, after playing in only three games because of a stress fracture in his foot. Cotton, a McDonald's All-American who was expected to be the starting point guard, hasn't decided where he will transfer. And he hasn't decided if he will leave school this semester. "Brandon may be back in school," coach Tom Izzo said. "It's going to be his decision now to just come back and go to school. He may transfer. I don't think he's made that decision yet. We did meet last night for a long time. To me, it's a sad situation because I think a lot of people got in his ear, and as I told you before, he's had a variety of personal problems and he's had the injury. "I think a lot of things happened that were not related to us or our team," Izzo said. "That's all I can tell you right now. I don't know exactly what he's going to do. He's not here as a player right now. I guess if he comes back and goes to school and it worked out for him, that's his [choice]." Izzo said he will support Cotton's decision and will give him a full release. That means Cotton can transfer without a penalty.</div> Cotton Link
This was a bad choice by Brandon Cotton. He is a confused kid. Recently, two of his closest family members were murdered so his head isn't where it's supposed to be right now. I think this has little to do with the team's poor start or the abundance of guards. From what I have heard from all my friends at Michigan State, Cotton is a team player and this has more to do with his off the court problems. Cotton is most likely to transfer to the University of Detroit-Mercy so he can be with his family members in Detroit. Career-wise this move wasn't necissarily a bad move or a good move. Cotton will be the center of attention at the University of Detroit-Mercy if he choses to go there, however, he would have most likely started at point guard for Michigan State as early as his Sophomore season due to their lack of a Point Guard. As for Michigan State, this will hurt them in the long run, but they've been playing without Cotton thus far so he won't exactly be missed. Right now Michigan State will manage making the tournament because if they have a .500 winning percentage then their schedule strength will get them a bid. Once they get to the tournament Hill, Anderson, and R.Johnson should be able to run the team's offense. In the long run though, Michigan State doesn't have any big name high school point guards who are looking at them. By the 2005 season Michigan State won't have Anderson and Hill around to help them run the point, so they should really feel the burn then. This is a sad day for everyone on the Michigan State basketball team.

But I guess he needs to do what's best for himself and his family. What's cool is that Izzo is gonna let 'em go like he is. Very professional.

If he thinks leaving the team is best for a player (such as Jason Richardson and Zach Randolph) then he won't argue with them. Instead, he'll support their decision.
