Brazil's Emilio named MLS Most Valuable Player

QUOTE

WASHINGTON (AFP) - DC United forward Luciano Emilio of Brazil was named the Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player here Thursday, calling the honor the greatest moment of his career.

Emilio scored an MLS-best 20 goals in 29 games for United, which had the best regular-season record in the 13-team North American league but was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

"This moment is the best moment of my career. I'm so happy," Emilio said.

Emilio, who turns 29 next month, signed with United in January after playing for CD Olimpia of Honduras and helped spark the club through a slow start to the league's top mark.

"We stayed together. We spoke a lot in the locker room. We had a good team. We stayed very positive," Emilio said. "Everything is very good for us. We worked very hard. I'm so happy."

New England will play defending MLS champion Houston here Sunday in the MLS Cup final.

Boo. Yeah, I love DC. Been to about 10 games and I'm part of the Screamin' Eagles (their fan base). Been to any Rev games/MLS games?

Oh nice. I live about 15 minutes outside of DC (Ashburn, VA) so I have easy access. Plus, the tickets are pretty cheap over here, just got a half-season ticket too. What do you make of the the new team? (Can't remember them)

I can't wait till footy catches on in the US!

Oh you mean the new team they're going to have in Seattle?

What do you think about our chances vs Houston in the MLS cup?

And yeah man I really hope that Americans start watching more football, the key to that is to get as many MLS games on tv as they can, like the thursday night game they had this season. That was great.

Yeah, and they showed a lot of the live Champion's League games on ESPN.

I'm not quite sure actually, I know that Rev have a strong team, but I have no idea about Dynamo. I have only been following MLS for about a year... I was expecting DC to go a bit further than just winning the supporters, but whatever... Shit happens.

    Dynamo or DC?

I guess I would be rooting for Rev seeing as I don't have any other teams I like/know.
