IF Trashman looks good this year, then perhaps this guy will get some of the credit, even though he's done nothing yet to deserve any credit?

Yankees land Executive from San Francisco Giants World Series team.
The newest member of the New York Yankees isn’t a player, but instead a new executive advisor to GM Brian Cashman, Brian Sabean. Brian Sabean comes over from 25 years spent with the San Francisco Giants, as he manned two different roles during his time with the organization.

Before being named the Executive Vice President back in 2019, he was heralded as an incredibly successful head of their baseball division and the GM that won three rings. As head of the Giants’ baseball division from 1997-2018, Sabean oversaw the most successful era in the club’s history, including three World Championships (2010, 2012, 2014).

Could the Yankees trade for this former AL East rival?

The Yankees landed a stud in Brian Sabean:

Per Brendan Kuty, he immediately reports to Cashman and will provide insight and help with various moves and transactions that take place. This is also his second go with the Bronx Bombers, as back in 1985, he was brought on as a scout for the organization and did so until 1993. Sometimes, the winning moves aren’t always players being brought in but also finding the right pieces and personnel that can get the best out of the franchise.

Back in the fall of 2021, Sabean was heavily linked to the Mets, and it was revealed that he was interested in an executive position with the team. However, he got his desire to get back in the Big Apple, just with the crosstown Yankees whom he started his baseball career with. This marks a full circle for Sabean, and it’s clear that his abilities and talents were heavily desired around baseball. “Sabean is the perfect guy,” a senior MLB executive told the New York Daily News back in October 2021. “There’s this perception that no one wants to work for Cohen. But if Sandy brings Sabean to Cohen, the Mets would be hiring a Hall of Famer.”

Safe to say the Yanks got a good one, and his pedigree and resume speak for themselves. He knows what it takes to win, as seen by the dominant stretch of success he oversaw during his time in San Fran.

The Yankees have struggled to clear that final hurdle of hoisting the coveted World Series trophy, and having someone like Sabean join the ranks is a phenomenal move. This offseason has been a great one for the Yankees, to say the least, and if the next few months are like these last two, I have high hopes for the 2023 season. Look for Sabean’s influence and knowledge to play a huge role, even if behind the scenes, in the Yanks’ success for years to come.

Just saw the ESPN article...wait, Cashman needs an "executive advisor" ?...seriously?

According to Cashman, Sabean is " one of the game's great evaluators," Cashman told The Athletic, lauding his work with the Giants. "He was an architect of arguably one of the greatest systems ever assembled that helped lead to a dynasty."

Doesn't this imply that Cashman is not a good "evaluator" of talent?...and if that's the case, why was he just given a 4 year contract extension?

Yankees Hire Omar Minaya As Senior Advisor To Baseball Operations

By Steve Adams | January 5, 2023 at 11:38am CDT

The Yankees announced Thursday that former Mets and Expos general manager Omar Minaya has been hired as a senior advisor to their baseball operations department. It’s the second time this week that the Yanks have added a respected, former GM with scouting roots to their front office in an advisory capacity. Longtime Giants GM Brian Sabean was hired in a similar role on Tuesday.

The 64-year-old Minaya served as the general manager in Montreal from 2002-04 before being hired by the Mets (where he’d previously worked as an assistant GM) as the general manager in Queens. He held that role from 2005-10 before being replaced by Sandy Alderson. Minaya would go on to spend five years as the vice president of baseball operations with the Padres, where he was also part of an interim GM committee in 2014 when the Padres dismissed Josh Byrnes midseason and waited until after the year to tab current president of baseball ops A.J. Preller as his replacement. Minaya served as the Padres’ point person for trade-related matters in the summer of 2014.

Minaya has spent nearly 40 years in baseball operations, holding various scouting and executive roles with the Rangers, Mets, Expos, Padres and in the league’s central office. The YES Network’s Jack Curry, who first reported that the Yankees were set to announce the hiring of Minaya, tweets that the addition of veteran execs like Minaya and Sabean is part of an effort by the Yankees to create more of a balance between traditional scouting wisdom and more modern, data-driven approaches to player evaluation.

These additions really makes a person wonder, just what is Trashman doing, by himself or is he?
As you noted, is he capable of evaluating talent?

Sounds to me like he's placing people around him to blame if he fails!

Was this Steinbrenner's idea, or Trashman's idea? If it were Steinbrenner's idea, then these moves would be very foretelling, as to recent contract? Or, could Steinbrenner be moving chess pieces around Trashman, for when Steinbrenner plans on firing him in the future? Cushions to fall back on?

Don't know how much Steinbrenner is paying all 3 of these non-players but some of that money could have been used to acquire another player.
