What would you give up for Monroe, or do you have any interest in him? http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2016/06/bucks-shopping-greg-monroe.html Bucks Shopping Greg Monroe June 20th 2016 at 10:57am CST by Luke Adams Less than a year after signing him as a free agent, the Bucks are shopping Greg Monroe “hard,” reports Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops and The Associated Press (via Twitter). Monroe, who turned 26 earlier this month, was his usual effective self during his first season in Milwaukee, averaging 18.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per 36 minutes to along with a .522 FG%. However, while Monroe was a productive low-post scorer and rebounder for the Bucks, his defense was lacking and he didn’t provide much rim protection. In our Bucks offseason preview, Dana Gauruder observed that Monroe’s defensive shortcomings could prompt the team to explore the trade market for him, as was reportedly the case at last season’s trade deadline. Although Milwaukee ultimately told Monroe he wouldn’t be moved at that time, at least one report suggested that he would have been obtainable if a trade partner had been willing to give up a “decent” first-round pick. It remains to be seen what sort of package the Bucks will seek if they move Monroe this offseason, but he’ll enter the 2016/17 season on an expiring contract of sorts. The ex-Piston is Milwaukee’s highest-paid player, with a $17.146MM cap hit for the coming year. He also has a $17.884MM player option for 2017/18, though there’s a good chance he’ll turn down that option and return to the open market a year from now, with the salary cap on the rise. In addition to figuring out whether or not Monroe fits into their plans next season, the Bucks will also have to determine what to do with Michael Carter-Williams, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Carter-Williams will be extension-eligible, but he was the subject of a few trade rumors earlier this year, and may not have a long-term future in Milwaukee.
Very little interest in him now. Pairing him with LMA was a different discussion last summer. Now, although he's still young and improving some......don't think he's the best target for us. We don't have many assets to trade. Whiteside, Horford, Howard are still better acquisitions for our team as we don't have to give up anything buy PA money.
This screams "no". Btw, I didn't know you could highlight certain portions of the whole post, and quote it like I did above. That makes it much more streamline.
One problem with Monroe is that if he plays well and does opt out after this next season, I don't think we would have full bird rights since he would basically only be coming off a two-year contract.
So instead of a very good defending big man, all we need is Lebron James. I'll settle for either, I guess.
We have Damian Lillard and he is making waves in the NBA and in his music career. Can Lillard make a small market seem like a large market? That's the question. We already have a large owner.
I don't like the idea of losing Ed or Mason, but if you could land Whiteside (for sure) then the combination with Monroe would be amazing.
Didn't he struggle playing with a low post center in Detroit. Can't remember for sure but I thought he and Drummond were a poor fit because both needed to be down low. I don't see he and Whiteside being a good fit either. I think if you can get Monroe for very little but cap space he is worth it. He is a good addition to the center committee. But Ed and Mason are too much IMO. Cap space and Cleveland #1 ....or a sign and trade for Leonard. They could use Meyer's outside shooting.
Whiteside and Howard would be amazing. But the more realistic option of a Mahimi & Monroe combo would be a huge upgrade as well.
So, to repeat: Pistons don't even try to resign Monroe or sign and trade him, so get NOTHING for him. Pistons now much better. Bucks up-and-coming exciting young playoff team. Need "extra piece". Sign Monroe. Bucks now worse. Bucks shopping Monroe. Is that the timetable?
