It’s not a secret that the Chicago Bulls are going through a season of turmoil. The team is also struggling to remain viable in the Eastern Conference Playoff race heading into the All-Star break. They currently sit at 26-29 and closer to the second-worst record in the conference than a top-four seed. That’s most definitely not what the Bulls had in mind when they added Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade to go with All-Star Jimmy Butler. Now heading into trade season, there’s been rumors floating about that Chicago may simply just decide to throw in the towel with its core group of players. We can now add one NBA executive to the list of experts who think this could happen. When Jimmy Butler signed a five-year extension with Chicago back in July of 2015, it was readily apparent that the team was set to build its roster around him. Add in the Derrick Rose trade from this past offseason and that was magnified even further. - See more at: http://sportsnaut.com/2017/02/report-bulls-would-likely-accept-godfather-offer-for-jimmy-butler/

Woj: Butler Trade To The Celtics Still Possible A potential trade sending Jimmy Butler from the Bulls to the Celtics will loom over deadline week, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical (Twitter link). In a video interview, Wojnarowski says the teams have discussed a deal involving Butler, but talks haven’t progressed very far. He adds that Chicago officials have to to fully commit to the rebuilding process before they would be willing to give up Butler. Wojnarowski says the trade would involve one of the Nets’ first-rounders — but probably not both — that Boston owns in the next two drafts. If the Bulls get this year’s pick, Wojnarowski states they can find a replacement for Derrick Rose, who was traded to the Knicks last summer. Washington’s Markelle Fultz and UCLA’s Lonzo Ballare point guards mentioned as likely choices at the top of the draft. Teaming Butler with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford would give the Celtics enough firepower to challenge Cleveland for supremacy in the East, Wojnarowski states, not just this season but for years to come. I doubt it happens, but I would do Jimmy for both BKN picks, one of Jaylen Brown/Rozier and one of Zizic/Yabusele.
I'm really not that keen on trading Jimmy to Boston unless it involves both Brooklyn picks as the cornerstone. Their other trading pieces (Bradley, Smart, Brown, Zizic, Yabusele, Crowder) are all good players, but have no clear path to being the type of player Jimmy is. So if you limit yourself to those guys you are clearly going to lose, and lose big time. Those are the sorts of deals that get FO's fired. So in order to make the trade worth it you need to throw in some good lottery tickets to give the team a reasonable chance of recouping the elite talent lost by giving away Jimmy. The BKN 17 pick is obviously the crown jewel, but chances are it's just going to amount to something much less than Jimmy, no matter how hyped this draft is. So it's the second lottery ticket that tips the scales in favor of the deal. I might consider switching out the 18 pick for the Memphis + LAC picks, but you definitely need 2 good lottery tickets on top of solid pieces to make the deal worthwhile.
Basically yeah. Trouble is we are a big market team with small market payroll. If Michael ever opens up the purse like other teams we can contend. Corporate owners want profit over everything else as long as Bulls fans come to the games, a championship is the furthest thing from their minds. They do, however, love the money that playoffs bring! That is why the Bulls also wanted some of their rotational players from Boston that Danny was not willing to give up. Owners want us to continue to flirt with the playoffs even after Jimmy is traded. And to have a low payroll compared to other contending teams. I am glad he is still here for now. I think, however, he will be traded on draft day. Boston, Lakers, and even Philly could put together a nice package for him.
