http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/05/31/531-injury-update-andrew-bynum/ This is good news right? Kobe had his knee drained and look how he has been playing lately. Hopefully this'll help Drew and his game, we'll need anything we can get out of him. Boston ain't gonna be easy at all.
Good news! He mentioned in a post-game interview he would get it drained. With Tuesday and Wednesday rest, he should be able to come off strong for Game 1. I'm not too worried about his offense, as long as he can move quickly on both sides of the court and in the paint providing some good D, I'm happy.
Also, in game 6, he played with a different, lighter brace that allowed lateral movement more easily. He looked good that game. I want Phil to try and get him involved early. He's a huge advantage for us if it gets physical. Bynum should get touches early in the game and let him see how is knee is. If he's productive, continue to play him until he wants out of the game.
bynum's defensive energy has been somewhat down, even though he has provided a much needed size advantage, his help defense almost always results in fouling the opponent. if he gets his lateral movements quicker and more solid, then his defense on and off the ball will improve, thus will our chances of beating the celtics.
Good news Kobe got his knee drained and went for 40 the next game with Bynum I'll be fine with 10 & 10.
The article was on ESPN but now every time you try and go to it it gives you a "page not found" error.
I don't see how having a knee drained would eliminate the pain. I don't think that was the point of this procedure. It simply was to reduce the swelling a bit. Perkins isn't quick, so this matchup favors Bynum a lot more than any matchup in the Phoenix series. His numbers in the Phoenix series were pretty respectable for the minutes he played.
I think what will be key for Bynum is that every play he's got to run the floor. After a defensive rebound, he has to beat Perkins down the floor. Whether that be him getting early position or forcing Boston to play 4 on 5 for a couple of seconds (you know sometimes we hit the big man who is streaking down the middle cause his man hasn't run back fast enough), he just has to do it. Meaning he needs to be active, which has been his problem in terms of consistency of his activity.
Tim Legler said this will help Drew a lot, but the deeper the series goes the worse it will get for him once the fluid comes back. Drew should have his explosiveness back and improved lateral movement.
