    He's my age.

    Didn't he retire last year?

I think he was well into his 40s, if not late 40s, when he retired.

He is class. At 57 he still is young 60 is the new 40. His brother did not stay as long in a Baltimore baseball career as Cal.

    I guess I'm mistaken.

41 isn't _that_ old for a baseball player.

The consecutive games, though. That's a lot of miles.

A truly great baseball player and role model...he retired long ago but was I think the oldest to do it in a long while...loved the guy's game. One of the good guys in the world of sports!

Phil Niekro retired in 1987 at the age of 48. A pitcher that does not play day to day used to last that long.

Satchel Paige....retired in 1953 at 47...came back at 59 and threw 3 shutout innings for KC.....probably the oldest guy to play in the majors...he was the Negro League's super star long before MLB let him play.

Nolan Ryan pitched in 4 different decades. He was no knuckleballer, he threw HEAT.

    He retired at age 46.

Frailing described a favorite memory: “Another highlight was batting against Nolan Ryan during an exhibition game at Palm Springs, California, in 1974, when Ryan was with the Angels. He struck out seven of the first eight batters. He was incredibly fast. Nolan threw the first fastball so hard that I could hear the seams spinning.

“I didn’t see his first pitch. I turned and said to the ump, ‘That sounded like a ball.’

“The ump said, ‘It sounded like a strike to me.’

On Fridays I work in the auction moving cars to the sales lanes and sold lots. One of best buds on the van is Sonny who had an uncle that was a star in the negro leagues. He said his uncle was due to move up after Campanera and Robinson achieved so much for human equality. You could hear the tomes of pride in his voice.
