I want to like them, I swear. And of course they are prepared and professional. But mostly when I watch a game now, I feel like I am watching an ESPN feed. It just feels so impersonal. I saw this article recently and it sums it up well. I agree, I miss Mike and Mike a lot, for many reasons. You?
Not nearly as entertaining. Plus Rice knows a shit ton more than Hurd about the NBA game. So far a swing and a miss.
Yeah I'll watch the other teams broadcast on leaguepass--I did with Mike and Mike too. I just like to hear different opinions each game.
I mentioned earlier when we signed them....give them some time to gain some backstory...Mike and Mike had a wealth of time traveling and getting to bond with rosters as opposed to the new crew who are still probably using cheat sheets to remember names...in my view...the new broadcast team will be much better than what we've all been used to. I really want Rice to take Jaynes job at Talkin' ball.....that's where he really would shine
Calabro is ok but Hurd tries way too hard to be "cool." Comes off super corny. Rice was 10x cooler. I don't really care about Barrett.
Yep. Plus with trying to make Portland more of a regional/national figure, sometimes its better to be impersonal. Other cities wont think they are homers and might jump on the national Blazer fandom. I honestly don't think the Blazers put too much stock into local/metro area fans. We are locked in. What other basketball team can you be a fan of and still go to the games? GSW if your a super rich mofo I guess. Other than that the Blazers know the local fans have no choice. However the national fans might not bite on homerism and want a bit more professional approach to the commentating. Either way, I miss mike and mike. no doubt. if your a Blazer fan, im sure you miss them. But again. All season change and this is now a new season and I'm totally happy with the more professional/less biased commentating.
If you went back in time about 18 years, you'd see posts about whether or not people like Wheels. He wasn't well received at first.
Honestly I would have liked Steve Smith or Ray Allen a lot more than Hurd. Or if they weren't worried about keeping it local maybe CWebb.
Calabro needs to quit doing "radio" like game info. We see the game, we do not need to be told what we just saw. We need info that we haven't seen. Like what is the line-up as of now etc. Calabro sounds so like radio. Hurd is just not NBA game level yet, more college game level. Also since I am giveing my opinion, have any of you noticed that the level of "Producer" or whoever is choosing the screens we are seeing during games, is terrible compared to last several years. And that "Add" over the score is terrible as well. And and HCP your replays are just.......so so !
How many times is Calabro going to mistake Dame for CJ and vice versa? I had really high hopes for this guy, but he's clearly out of touch with our roster, team, and fanbase. And holy shit, he makes so many mistakes with the score. First of all, he doesn't need to say it out loud--- but if he's going to, at least say it right! He's had 24 games and I hear no improvement. I'm supremely underwhelmed. Hurd is pointless. He adds nothing. No real analysis, no humor, and the banter between these guys is nonexistent. I miss Rice. The whole things seems so artificial and canned. 0 character whatsoever, and as someone who was really high on KC back in the day, I'm left really disappointed.
