CFL: Alouettes QB also expects veteran slotback Cahoon to rejoin team after golf outing with favourite passing target

One of the Canadian Football League's marquee players, and one of its highest-paid athletes, said he believes a new collective agreement can be reached without the threat of a work stoppage.

"It doesn't worry me, although I know (Players' Association president Stu Laird) said there could be a good chance (of labour unrest)," Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo said. "I don't see it happening, but here we are, six weeks away (from training camp without an agreement). But I still believe it'll get done and I'm not too concerned." Calvillo and his wife, Alexia, were the guest speakers Monday night at the Centaur Theatre, part of The Gazette's Centaur and the City lecture series. The two fielded a wide range of questions - football- and health-related - from the audience for close to 90 minutes.

The Gazette obtained a copy in early April of two confidential emails Laird sent to each CFL player, suggesting the "possibility of a lockout is very real," along with the CFLPA's demands.
