With our 7 wins we're only one win behind 3 current West playoff teams; the Jazz, Clippers and TWolves. If we'd won the Houston and Memphis buzzer beaters we'd have as many wins as Memphis. That would be more than all but the top 4 teams in the West. The bottom of the west playoff teams are weaker this year than they've been in over a decade. I'm wondering if we should call off operation tank for the time being and see if we can make a playoff push? We are a very young team with many fresh faces; and we have the lowest payroll in the league. It would be real excited if this group can be in the playoff talk later in the season. I'd much rather read about long shot playoff upsets than draft prospects. Go Blazers!
Do we really want a date with the Warriors in April, though? In most years, the playoffs are the goal. But, hypothetically speaking, getting the Warriors AND losing our draft pick would not be ideal.
I don't think so. We're still pretty close to where I thought we'd be, and we've had a pretty light schedule so far.
How about the #7 seed and play the Spurs? They've lost in the first round as the favorite 3 times in the Pop/Duncan era. In 2011 they lost as a 61 win #1 seed. Of course they also lost in the first round last year although they weren't the favorite. I mean yeah we likely lose but it would be a fun chance to see what happens as massive underdogs and play with nothing to lose.
Really it would be like an extra kick in the balls. Swept out of the first round and then no lottery pick.
Whenever I see people post good or bad that we are "only so many games behind or ahead of so-n-so" I always wonder what their strength of schedule is compared to ours and how many home and away games they've had compared to ours.
Our rep would be so much better if we took this team to the playoffs that it would have a bigger impact than a draft pick
I think that would be great to make the playoffs, BUT for future success, I'll take a high lottery draft pick thank you very much.
So you'd rather have a shitty group of players to add a potentially good one than a good group of players with a good enough rep to add a good one in free agency?
We don't have a "good group" of players though. And since when did we ever add a good free agent just because we DID have good players? I'm a big fan of building through the draft. Always have been.
I'd love to make the playoffs even if we're the 8th seed against the Warriors. I will always think winning as much as possible is the best option. Fuck losing.
You never know what going to happen through the season. Injuries is big key who make it or don't make it. But one thing I know this team trying to win every night out.
When we decided to blow it up and trade Camby and Gerald Wallace, it REALLY sucked losing down the stretch that season. But the silver lining after each defeat was, you knew we were getting a great pick that June. Did I think it would turn out to be a star like Dame, no, but it was worth it. We aren't just one "good" free agent away right now..... we need a TON of help. I'll take the losses against his season if we have to. Love seeing out guys compete, scratch and claw, but I'm pumped for a top 5 pick.
I think we've got some nice prospects. Dame is a star, CJ is a really good player, but we need more than one star if we ever want to be considered a serious contender. We had LA and Dame. We need to replace LA and I don't think it's going to happen in free agency. Either it's a trade, OR we hopefully end up with a pick that's high enough to get another star player. If it's high enough to get Simmons, awesome, if not.... well...... trust in Neil.
Our pick netted us Meyers the Nets pick netted us Lillard. Id like us to be competitive but bad so we end up with a top 5 pick but that might be out of the question. There are some really really bad teams this year.
The king has spoken, and he has said the Blazers will upset the Warriors similar to the 2007 Warriors upsetting the #1 seeded Mavericks. It is an interesting comparison. Here were the two rosters. Warriors: Mavericks: ...but of course this is based on the outcome of a preseason game.
