Canada needs to do what the Aussies did and create a sport institute.

We blow. It's actually sad that we have nobody expected to do anything either.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>BEIJING - Canadian freestyle wrestler Carol Huynh is guaranteed an Olympic medal - it's just a question of whether it will be gold or silver.

She defeated Tatyana Bakatyuk of Kazakhstan in her 48-kilogram semifinal match at the Beijing Games on Saturday, guaranteeing herself a spot on the podium.

Huynh, from Hazelton, B.C., will wrestle Chiharu Icho of Japan for the gold later in the day at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium.

''It feels pretty special,'' Huynh said of ending Canada's medal drought. ''I know that we've got more coming. I know we do, but it's nice to be the first one.''

The 27-year-old jumped up and extended her arms in the air after the victory. She won the match on points, taking the first period 1-0 and closing the match out with a 4-0 score in the second.

''I was a little nervous at first,'' Huynh said. ''I was a little bit heavy on my feet but I kept wrestling just like my coaches always tell me to do. Keep wrestling no matter what's going on and whoever stops wrestling first is the one (who'll be) done.

    ''And I kept wrestling.''</div>

It's okay, when I move to Canada in the future and join the basketball team with Andy Rautins, I'll win you guys a couple of medals.

I never get too upset over this (it seems like its a major issue every 4 years). We're not a summer Olympics country, that's just the fact of the matter. Sure we've always had a few great athletes in every Games, but by and large we've never been expected to post huge medal counts in these Games. Our funding reflects that. Getting overly disappointed about this would be like an Australian getting pissed off that their country sucks at the Winter Olympics.

What I think we need to do is send fewer athletes to the Olympics (we send a helluva lot considering how poor we perform), and concentrate our funding into a smaller number of athletes who have a better chance of medalling.

btw, 3 medals today! Suck on that Togo!

Every 4 years its the same thing though. Everyone in our country gets paranoid and angry as we don't medal for the first week or so. Some of our favourites choke. Some of our unheralded athletes surprise and become favourites for the next Games. We usually average out at about the same medal count.

I'm definitely looking forward to the Winter Olympics. We've set that as a goal and it be our coming out party, similar to Australia in the Sidney Games.

Tonya Verbeek beat the crap out of me in grade 8 in a wrestling match. Glad to see she won a bronze.

Are you implying that Canada's gay? That's pretty mean.

Or wait, is that a tattoo?
