Manchester United, Arsenal, Wigan and Stoke are all in action in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

The competition to reach the quarter-finals will be intense, but the usual squad rotation is expected to be in full evidence as United meet Queens Park Rangers and Stoke host Rotherham.

Elsewhere - in a flashback to the 1970s - Derby host Leeds and managerless Watford travel to Swansea.

But Arsenal's all-Premier League clash with Wigan at Emirates Stadium is the pick of the bunch and it will be possible to follow all the drama live on Sky Sports 2 and HD2.

Arsene Wenger's Gunners reached the semi-finals last season - before a comprehensive aggregate defeat to derby rivals, and eventual tournament winners, Tottenham - and their manager will be eager to go all the way this year in an attempt to end a silverware drought.

The League Cup is, perhaps, not the highest valued accolade in English football but Arsenal are without a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup and any new addition would be well welcomed in North London.

Wigan, though, could fancy their chances, with Wenger again set to put his faith in the youthful likes of Kieran Gibbs, Carlos Vela and Jack Wilshere, who saw off Sheffield United so convincingly in the third round.

Latics boss Steve Bruce will also be well aware that his club have fond memories of trips to the capital in the League Cup after surprisingly sending Arsenal packing on away goals in the 2006 semi-finals.

Two-time winners Manchester United welcome Championship outfit QPR to Old Trafford having already progressed one stage further in the competition than last season.

United were stunned at home by opponents from the second tier, Coventry, in 2007/08's third round and Sir Alex Ferguson will be guarding against a repeat performance.

Like Wenger, Ferguson is expected to ring the changes, with league and UEFA Champions League title defences the priority, but QPR will still be face a tough task.

In a similar scenario to Watford, the Hoops are without a manager after parting company with boss Iain Dowie in October, and caretaker chief Gareth Ainsworth will be keen to reinforce his credentials with what would be a major upset.

Ainsworth has admitted he will be 'in awe' of Ferguson, but he will not allow respect to interfere with a competitive instinct when attempting to rattle the Red Devils as promotion hopefuls QPR look to build on a run of one defeat in six league games.

Stoke are the final top-flight side playing on Tuesday as Tony Pulis' men see League Two strugglers Rotherham arrive at the Britannia Stadium.

The Potters' key focus is on maintaining a place in the Premier League and Pulis could, therefore, opt to field a number of fringe players against the Millers.

Rotherham also have eyes on survival, this time in the Football League, but advancing in the cup would also bring a welcome financial incentive and manager Mark Robins will have his troops well motivated.

League One Leeds travel to Pride Park to take on Championship Derby, sparking memories of clashes between the two sides from more than 30 years ago.

The Baseball Ground was the scene of the infamous flare-up between Derby's Francis Lee and Leeds' Norman Hunter in November 1975 and a rivalry has existed ever since, which promises to make Tuesday night's encounter a fiery one.

Finally, Watford - who are without a boss following Aidy Boothroyd's recent departure - visit Championship rivals Swansea.

It has been a disappointing season for the Hornets in the league and caretaker manager Malky Mackay, who has admitted an interest in a full-time role, will be looking for some welcome relief.

Roberto Martinez's Swans meet the Hornets at The Liberty Stadium for the second time in three days following a 3-1 home win on Sunday.
