So, I rear ended someone the other week and now the insurance is doing a total loss on my car. Its a BAD market out there right now, but I need a car. Looking at probably getting a 2-3 year old civic, but prices are way inflated. Anyone use any of the online spots: Carvana, Shift, Carmax or any other thoughts?
Mrs PokerDog is buying a new car right now. What a fucking adventure, lol. Because of the chip shortage, we might be buying the car in Seattle or LA. We're talking to dealers in both. Best way to buy a car, the Costco Auto Program. Because of chip shortage, the car she wants has a $5,000 market adjustment. The Costco Auto makes the dealer take that off the price. The Seattle dealer she is talking to the Costco Auto program is $350 below MSRP. The LA is $500 below MSRP. None of the other auto buying programs gets you close to that.
Can you afford to order from a manufacturer and wait? Honestly it's probably cheaper and a better deal.
The one damn time that we get to have the power... buying cars.... and it has been taken away from us. the Covid world sucks.
I won't have a car then. All the dealers are doing $3-5k markups in the area, the Kia/Hyundais are doing $10k.
Buy new with Costco. Used is stupid money right now. Her current car is a Kia Soul. She bought it in 2016 for $15,000k. We're selling it to a local Kia dealership for the current KBB price of $11,500. It has 80,000 miles. In a normal market that is maybe a $5,000 car.
I want to sell my car. I just shortened my commute down to 5 miles and don't need this extra payment. Want to buy a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder?
You go on Costco's website (if you're a Costco member) enter the make and model and zip code you want to purchase in. They will tell you the Costco dealership for your area.
Sell it to a dealer. Go on KBB and see what it lists for, there is a section on the website right now asking if you want dealers to contact you to buy it.
You still have to go into the dealership and deal with the finance manager, etc. I guess maybe finance through a credit union or bank?
I regret that I sold my 'extra' car a couple of years ago. Could probably get twice as much for it now. barfo
Mrs PokerDog wants a Kia Niro Special Edition Hybrid. They're all $5k market adjustment on top of the MSRP. The Costco program eliminates that. There are no Costco affiliated Kia dealers in Portland right now so that's why we're looking in Seattle and LA. For a legit $5k savings we'll buy in Seattle or LA. The Costco dealer in LA for Kia is Car Pros. But you have to go through Costco to get the discount.
