This thread comes hot on the heels of this interview posted on Blazersedge, http://www.blazersedge.com/2013/10/...ing-vp-dewayne-hankins-lays-out-2013-14-goals, talking about how the Blazers are trying to re-re-brand themselves as Oregon's team and make an overall better product for the fans. I've been thinking about this every offseason since the Roy draft, and I think it's about time it happened: modernizing our Jersey and logos. We've had our current jersey set-up since the 2002 season, and it has gone through crazy up-and-downs since then. We've worn them through the Jail blazer days, the Roy resurrection, the Roy and Oden era, and through to the Dame era. Although i think they look nice, I never really liked the slanted "BLAZERS" and "Portland" scripts on the front of the jerseys, and I especially hate our logo (since it looks like a PHX Suns knockoff). Now Portland introduced new alts last season, and I think they look super sleek. I would have no problem introducing white and black versions of the red jersey and call it a day. But we could also go retro and make a design inspired by the 80s and early 90s Blazer jerseys (my personal favorites http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/vi...oxy6/Portland_Trail_Blazers/1986/Road_Uniform). I also wouldn't mind perhaps re-slanting the pinwheel or at least redesigning it. What ideas do you guys have for a rebrand? Do you even think it's necessary?
Creating a thread based on a link to anything BlazersEdge is no good around here son. Don't know where you came from, but you should have read the forum rules.
Go with the alternates as the main uniforms, un-point the Pinwheel, make it vertical instead of slanted (altho, ironically enough, it's been slanted longer than it was vertical), incorporate a new alternative uniform like the first style uniforms, and call it a day. Maybe come up with a 2nd road uniform (not black) and I'd be happy. I do like the "Rip City" uniforms, not only because the font is nice, but because it's simple.
I checked out the LaMarcus commercial...why does the billboard say "this is RIP CITY...since 1971"...Was it (calender year) 1971 that Bill coined the phrase? Btw, I too like those uniforms, but with OKC stealing them from Portland, it would probably piss off David Stern...even though Portland had them, obviously, first.
Anything with that lower-case round thin font is a win in my book. You don't see it much and I think it looks sharp.
Definitely time for a change. I would love to see our modern alternate reds become the new main road jersey, with a modernized black becoming the alternate, and of course, a modernized white jersey for home. I do love when we wear the red one at home, though. The only criticism I have is the sleeves being half-striped. Looks kinda weird. Silver alternate, anyone?
What I would do: Lose the current font, it's way too serif heavy Drop the silver: This is the Trail Blazers - we're red, black, and white. That's it. For the love of all things holy, push that pinwheel back upright Use the "Rip City" jerseys font for everything, although I wouldn't totally hate using the new red alt "Portland" font, either. Go back to the 89-90 jerseys and have a home, away, red alt, and Rip City options Just go back to the basics.
The retro stuff is nice but I have no problem if the Blazers what to try something new. Just as long as they let the fans have say when it's released.
^Negative. Our logo and design is simple and old school. So many teams fuck up their look trying to be all edgy and new. (See Ws) Leave it.
