Man Utd currently have a 17 goal advantage over Chelsea and as John O'Shea rightly points out, the 6 point gap is in fact more like 7 points. Jose Mourinho's philosophy of grinding out 1-0 results, even against poor opposition has meant that Chelsea have effectively lost ground on the leaders. It's easy to blame Shevchenko, but that would really be distracting from the fact that Chelsea simply do not score enough goals. Surprising though, that with a squad assembled on millions needs to adopt a careful and let's be honest, frigid approach to their game. Ruefully, i've watched Chelsea cruise against teams who are completely outclassed, believing Chelsea will surely score all day - only to see them pass the ball around, holding possession and playing it safe. I would put it to Jose, that keeping possession is vital against the top teams, but considering bigger picture, the chasm of goals scored between Chelsea and United - playing keep ball is a waste of time. What's more, Jose has said time and time again this season how when Chelsea HAS beaten a team 3-0 or 4-0 how they 'didn't deserve it', expressing respect and humility. Whilst this is honourable, isn't it hugely damaging to the players mentality? Doesn't it say "go easy on this guys, they're good blokes"? No wonder Chelsea lack a killer instinct when their boss openly admits to resenting large scoreline against dignified teams. If Chelsea can get a ruthlessness, and to be frank, grow some balls, then they can realistically challenge Man Utd. Otherwise, Man Utd will plough through the league with their merciless pace, skill, guile and fearless football.
Mourinho did not set up his team to go all out this season. He doesnt want his players or him to be called a fantasy team. He wants us to be looked at as a team as we are as well as having best squad in Premiership. Next season we will win it for sure, now Abramovich & Kenyon are on to him, Chelsea will play like Manu,Arsenal next season cant wait!
If Chelsea beat us then wont they have a better head to head...or doesnt that count in the premiership?
