Loved his work...Spain...Return to Forever first album I've owned on vinyl cassette and cd.....saw him at the WOW Hall in Eugene many many years ago....genius talent...RIP....gone too young
I was having a string bass lesson with Johnny Moore at his house in Lincoln City when the door bell rang, there was Chic standing there with a 6 pack of Michelob Light. I was 17 at the time, Chic handed me a beer and I get to sit there for a little while listening to those two trade stories from when they toured together. It was an amazing afternoon.
That's really cool! Hey, FWIW, I met Brian "Head" Welch (formerly) from Korn last night. We chatted about a number of things. Cool guy. Amazing story. There's a documentary on him called Loud Krazy Love.
When I played bass in the 13 piece Salsa Band we opened for Airto Moreia and Flora Purim who played on the first two Return to Forever lps with Chick....they stayed with me for the weekend ( I had leased an 11 bedroom victorian house nearby and rented rooms at the time to musicians and artists.) and told me a lot of stories about the jazz greats....one of the highlights of my career.....Airto borrowed my old analog delay to use on his snare and Flora's effects second mic..I still have that stomp box..she sang through two microphones...one with delay and one without.....those people live music....after the gigs they'd crack out the nylon string guitars and sing bossa nova songs into the wee hours.....that's as close as I ever got to someone who knew Chick well.
Heh. Then, there's @EL PRESIDENTE ....who knows chicks well. Errr...wait. Forgot. He's now securely off the market.
el prez hasn't survived his Vegas bachelor party yet....the only market he'll be off is his day trading of bitcoin and nerd money
