The Boston Red Sox have hired Chili Davis as their hitting coach.

Davis held that job with the Oakland Athletics the past three seasons and with Boston's top minor-league team at Triple-A Pawtucket in 2011. In a 19-year playing career as an outfielder and designated hitter, Davis was a three-time All-Star.

He played alongside Red Sox manager John Farrell with the Angels during parts of 1993 and 1994.
