What does this mean for Frazier? I think he's better than a 3rd string pg. Hope stotts can find some time for him too.
I think CJ is fine as long as he gets his touches. And I don't see that as a problem regardless of how and where Stotts plays him.
(repeat from the game thread) I'm wondering, if Henderson doesn't come back quickly and play well, if he's about to be Wally Pipp'd. CJ isn't only going to get 12 mpg behind Dame. That leaves Aminu, Harkless, Crabbe and Henderson fighting for roughly 80mpg at the wings. Assuming the starters get 30-ish each, two of those guys are backups fighting over 20 mpg.
Tangentally but seriously, I think CJ is our "backup Dame" more than our backup PG. that means you could see Crabbe next to him or Frazier next to him.
It means what I said a couple days ago. We will run a 3 guard rotation Of Dame - CJ - Henderson and Frazier will get 5-8mpg maybe. That would put Pressey as our 4th string PG.
Mike and Mike mentioned that Pressey will be the featured backup point guard in the next game and Frazier will sit.
I don't think Henderson is in the teams long term plans. I see kaman and henderson being trading chips to teams competing. Maybe they are hoping for a similar package we gave up for afflalo last year. I think Cj being crowned the backup Pg, is a great thing for crabbe. He should be the starting sg to start the season anyways, with Cj coming off the bench playing both guard spots. Crabbe is a great team player, can shoot lights out and plays decent defense. Not sure what else we want him to do. Another key thing is I believe he fits well next to dame and Cj.
I am just not a fan of CJ. I really want him to be the guy (at PG or SG), but I just don't see it. He regularly looks like a "meh" bench player.
Still think this is not smart, starting CJ at the 2. A rotation that brings him in off the bench in place of Crabbe midway through the first naturally flows into him being on the floor as backup PG when Dame sits. He could easily get a solid 12-14 minute stretch from mid-first to mid-second quarters, and have plenty of opportunity to run point. If Stotts wants at least one of CJ and Dame on the floor at all times, it just makes more sense for CJ to be the 6th man.
Damian and CJ are our only guards worth keeping. We should be looking to replace all the others with better players if the chance arises.
Mike and Mike said that the GState game was supposed to be Frazier's chance to shine and Pressey will be given all the minutes next time. This was deliberate and does not mean they've chosen Frazier (yet).
good to know. It seemed odd, but Stotts has played some odd combinations (or buried some guys with odd reasons) in the past. Good to know that PP will get a shot or two.
I wouldn't say that at all. He strikes me as the kind of player who has to be a star or will not make it. Kind of like Spanoulis: he couldn't be a star in the NBA so he basically had to leave, despite being more talented than most backup PGs. He was just talented at the kind of things your star player gets to do, but not the boring stuff that bench players have to be good at.
