I will say this, I've been so solidly in the trade CJ camp for so long but it has nothing to do with who he is. I really love CJ. The guy is a class act and one of the guys I like to listen to talk most in the league. CJ's game is sick too. His handle is dope and he has a million shots in his bag. I want CJ to go somewhere he can not have to share the ball with arguably the most potent offensive weapon in basketball. I want both Dame and CJ to be surrounded by players that cover for their biggest weakness which is defense. I want nothing but the best for CJ and the best happens to be elsewhere for him and for those of us who root for the Blazers.
CJ is a perfect 6 man for this team....he's a perfect backup for Dame and a volume scorer with the bench mob....if he wants to start he should go to the east and be the number one option on a team that needs a volume shooter..I'd like to see us trade him for DeRozan with the Spurs...put CJ on a good team that will help his game and DeRozan is a great piece with Norm and Dame
He's a young Jamal Crawford who's just making bank.....people forget Kevin McHale was a 6 man for the Celtics.....put him in the HOF
After game 5: "I've gotta be better" game 6: CJ sucks after game 6: "It's part of life when you play sports." Not just when you play sports.
I think moving him is necessary. He's not what the Blazers need at this time. I wish him nothing but the best. Unlike some, I don't hate him. I remember how he stepped up against Denver two years ago when Dame was hurt.
Really? The Celtics? I bet as a percentage of salary cap McHale's salary took up a much smaller slot than CJ's.
The whole Celtic roster with McHale made less then CJ I'm guessing....another guy who won a chip and was an incredible 6 man who made the eastern finals and got a championship was Lindsay Hunter with Chauncey's Pistons....I don't think it changes anything for CJ other than getting his name announced before games....the money stays the same.
All he needed to do was not shooting 3s with 20s on the clock being alone on other team's half. And pass the ball. Those two simple things and I would never think about trade. Got noone else to blame but himself for being selfish on the court. Sorry CJ.
I've been as big of fan as any to ship CJ for whatever we can best get. However, CJ has absolutely been a class act and a great representation along with Dame as a Blazer. But it is all about building a contender and while I so much wish that a team with Dame/CJ could be a contender, it is clear that it can't and history shows that a backcourt as small as ours doesn't usually compete for championships so it is time to try something else and trade him.
The problem isn't just their size. Neither of them are good defenders, so you can't hide either of them like Golden State hides Curry. Neither of them make the other better. They both need the ball in their hands. They duplicate each other too much. Klay and Steph are different kinds of players, but funny enough they can both play off the ball. Neither Dame or CJ like to play off the ball. They NEVER run off screens. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars were both short, but they were very different players. That's not the case with Dame and CJ.
Agreed, size isn’t the problem. It’s effort and focus. Look at Utah. Both Mitchell and Conley are 6’1”, shorter than Dame and CJ.
