Maybe someone else linked Dan Marang’s column on Blazers Edge about CJ’s shooting stats, but I didn’t see it. I think it’s worthy of its own thread anyway: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...tland-trail-blazers-cj-mccollum-stats-history
Good article and thanks for sharing the link. Yeah, C.J.'s 2016-17 season was one for the ages. That was the season after he won MIP and I remember posting that he really should have won it two years in a row. His raw number didn't jump as much in 2016-17 as they did in 2015-16, but his increased efficiency was even more impressive the second time around. In fact, until last season, C.J. had improved each and every one of his shooting percentages every year he'd been in the league. That kind of improvement is not sustainable indefinitely, and it's pretty damned impressive it lasted as long as it did. Can C.J. return to his 2016-17 super human form in 2018-19? Hard to say, but I'd be more than happy with somewhere between his 2016-17 and 2017-18 percentages. BNM
I think one reason CJ's numbers took a hit last year (as much as it was a "hit") was the lack of outside shooting present on the rest of the team. Also, just teams adapting to his game. But I think the teams offense struggled most of the year last year due to how horrible the makeup of the team was.
Yep. I just commented in the 7 Guards w/o Turner thread how sick I was of the C.J. and 4 guys who can't score second unit. Adding Curry, Baldwin and Trent Jr. to the bench should be a huge improvement. Having any two of those guys on the floor with C.J. when Dame is out should really open up things for C.J. BNM
We could just have @Boob-No-More write up a statistical report as it's own thread. Might be better quality! Haha.
I blame Carmelo and China. One has been eliminated this summer, the other is still a concern. Maybe that'll get him halfway back to '16-17 numbers, like BNM said.
One of my concerns for this season is that every minute ET gets will be time someone who can shoot won't get. I don't usually worry about $17 mil/year former lottery picks in their prime taking minutes away from a rookie 2nd rounder, but that's kind of where I'm at. A healthy Curry will pay immediate dividends, but the team will make a huge improvement if Collins shoots 36-37% from 3 - the defense would have few options.
When I picture the Blazers rotation with all the new guys, I don't see a role for ET. Everyone else seems to fit together, but ET doesn't seem to fit with anyone. I know we may hear something like surround ET with 4 shooters and let him facilitate, but when you have a guy like Baldwin, why bother? Baldwin plus one (or both) of Dame and C.J. gives you plenty of facilitators to create shots for others. Why add another who can't shoot? BNM
That's weird... I remember contributing here and then someone finding my work and offering me money to continue doing it when I had no intention of moving to a career in sports. I mean really, doesn't everyone go to a forum/board to build their sports writing empire? C'mon man, be smarter than that. It's not rocket science, someone hands you money to do something you were going to do already- what do you do?
for what it's worth I enjoy your work Dan....don't get the hate...congrats on your success...as far as I'm concerned it's good to see you post on the board here again...nothing wrong with building a brand....others here link to their podcasts and youtube sites all the time. No rule against it as far as I know of. You landed a paying gig doing something you're good at...that's commendable..I disagreed about your take on Mason Plumlee but in retrospect you were spot on and I was wrong....lookin' back I can admit that now
Then why hasn't @Boob-No-More been offered a job? He's as good of a writer and basketball mind as you can find. This "recruiter" came to a forum that's been filled with great posts and columns for years, just to snatch the dude that'd been here, what, a couple months? Weird. Maybe they didn't look hard enough or maybe you stood out more... I'm just saying if I read BNM stuff, even if I disagreed with it, I'd offer him a job immediately.
