Infielder Cliff Pennington avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.28 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a baseball source told ESPN.com Sunday.

Pennington, 30, is a .248 career hitter with a .665 OPS over parts of seven seasons with Oakland and Arizona. He hit .254 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 68 games last year while missing two months with a thumb injury that required surgery in June.
