9400+ confirmed cases, and rising fast

India and Philippines report first confirmed cases. India does not have the infrastructure to properly deal with this virus.

Mortality rate appears to be about 2% of confirmed cases.

They've got a ton of them at the VA hospital. They're located in several prominent locations throughout the hospital free for the taking.

I was talking with a friend who is a nurse in Texas at a very large hospital. A little update on the information I posted above.

Right now, in the USA, per the CDC, the screening process for the coronavirus is as follows: If a person shows up with flu like symptoms and has recently been to China or around someone who has been to China that person is put in isolation. An isolation suite is air contained. Most hospitals have only a few of such rooms and a limited ability to convert other areas in the hospital into similar rooms.

This is working with no problems for now.

But... if the coronavirus enters the general population, meaning exposure from people who have no direct connection to China, that is when serious problems begin.

It means the screening process is unworkable. We have no way to isolate all people presenting flu like symptoms and to wait until tests come back to see if they have the flu or coronavirus.

There is a very good chance this won't happen. That the virus in this country won't cross from people who have recently visited from China into the general population but there are things that everyone can do to help.

    1. Get a flu shot. Reduce the possibility of you and your family of getting the flu.

    2. Wash your hands. Often. Use hand sanitizer. Often.

    3. Eat well, gets lots of rest, be healthy.

Here are a few things that I am concerned and worried about.

This virus is not under control and contained, let alone shrinking in numbers.

The numbers of infected continues to increase everyday by about 20% over the previous day.

The countries with confirmed cases is increasing.

While our govt is doing everything it can to stop the virus from spreading. And all of the infected have been very cooperative, as far as we know. It only takes one irresponsible infected person to release this virus into the public.

Here is a horrible thought. What if one of our enemys decides this is an easy opportunity to damage our country. They send in an infected person, or 20, to spread the virus into the public as much as possible.

These are the reasons I am preparing now in case the virus does get out of control here. We take so much for granted. Sure the govt will do everything it can to keep us supplied. But our quality of life will be better if we prepare now for ourselves, rather than depending on others later.

I don't see the cause for concern. Those that survive the pandemic will be the basis for a stronger gene pool going forward.

    We will repopulate.

Fear the flu, not so much the Coronavirus.

From what I've read, the mortality rate from the Coronavirus is around 2%...considerably less than influenza.

Double check the flu mortality rate

    Coronavirus 2.0%
    Influenza 0.13%
Coronavirus is about 20 times more deadly than the flu.

But numbers from China are very unreliable, so the coronavirus mortality rate may change. There are many untested sick people in China, and many have died without being tested.

The numbers change from country to country with respect the flu/pneumonia mortality rate and this should be viewed as a global problem. And you also have to consider the people who die from pneumonia as a result of the flu.
I would also think the overall health of the populace in China (especially the older folks) as well as health care is nowhere as good as it is in the US.

More people in China have been treated and released with the kung flu than have died from it.

Do you mean that if I get the Coronavirus then I still have a 51% chance of survival? That's comforting.
