I listen to a doc from CDC on CNN talk about numbers are skewed high at this point till they have a better count of just how many are infected, or potentially so?
He also commented that he predicts with some of the data he's seen coming in that mortality will be under 1% now.

Not as bad as what I heard on MSNBC the other night regarding Bloombergs $500 million could provide a million to each person and have some left over, based on current population.
It was two seasoned reporters and they both agreed with the math as it was put front and center to America.

This would be Sheldon Cooper's utopia and worst nightmare all in one.

That seems very myopic IMO...by most accounts a vaccine won't be available for perhaps a year and considering the iffy effectiveness of similar flu vaccines we has no idea of the effectiveness %.
And when you couple that with how fast the disease has spread thus far, the numbers of infected could be quite staggering by the time any vaccine may or may not be available..

Death rates might vary between countries. We have yet to see rates in countries like Syria or Afghanistan, which have been at war for years and have almost no public health structure. So far all we have is WHO. And Trump without evidence deciding his hunch is more accurate. I will go with WHO until I see further evidence.

Well 16/965 (or whatever it was) he got that part right. Which I have seen a lot of people leave the step there and just assume people understand it. :dunno:
I read it and immediately knew what it meant.

Imagine what the flu numbers would be if we didn't have flu vaccines. The mortality ate would be much much higher.

We also have to contend with economic effects. Manufacturing had already been in downturn; it's consumer spending keeping economy moving.
I mentioned performances in San Francisco cancelled. Just looking at ripples from that. The ballet will still pay dancers but ushers, cleaners, parking lot attendants won't be paid. If there are multiple cancelled shows, next season SF Ballet might have fewer dancers or fewer dance scholarships due to losses. Maybe half attendees also go to lunch or dinner, maybe shop. They ride public transit, or take cabs, or pay parking. Buy souvenirs at gift shop. None of that is happening. Multiply by every cancelled event, including huge ones, in every impacted city.

With administration focused on Trump happy talk and calling Corona virus a hoax, I suppose I should not be surprised to see survey that Democratic voters are twice as likely to wash their hands frequently as Republican voters.

We didn't use to have Democratic viruses and Republican viruses, but during H1-N1 epidemic Limbaugh announced he would not get vaccinated because President Obama had said to do so, and Trump called it a hoax. (His working vocabulary is about 10 words he recycles for every situation.)

I'm a Republican voter (not a Trump voter) and I wash my hands constantly.

You are right that a disease like this is getting caught up in politics. WASH YOUR FUCKING HANDS, PEOPLE. Be kind and courteous to one another

What are you getting at here? Or are you just venting? There are plenty of threads for you to complain about Trump and use your political views to be divisive. This isn’t really a good thread for that. It serves no purpose other than to muck up a discussion that could otherwise be constructive.
