http://hoopshype.com/rumor/larry-sanders-back-to-the-nba/ We're the only team in the west that has the money, right?
Wow.... three or four years ago I would have been all over it, but now...... I don't know. Honestly, I probably would give him a shot. Bring him in, let him compete against our hungry young guys, and see what he does. At best, he's an All-Star caliber big. At worst, he's a bust and you cut him. I'm not opposed to that kind of low risk, high reward move.
Wow. Portland would likely be the perfect team for him, but I wonder how that would work out. Not enough minutes for the existing bigs as it is. I wonder how much he would make? He was making 9M/year. Who else could sign him?
Couldn't any team sign him since I doubt he would get more than the minimum for the year to prove he's back first?
This is a move that wouldn't surprise me and would be worth a risk...Olshey has targeted these types in the offseason..very Greg Monroe type player..cmeese would go crazy if we landed him
The Blazers are going to be at the top of every free agent, trade rumor all season..we have lots of money
...only if he gets the mental help he needs AND proves himself on the court -- battling severe anxiety AND depression is no joke!
I'd most certainly pass. We aren't looking at contending so the upside of him putting everything together here doesn't really push us closer to our goal. This year is about finding long term pieces to build along with Lillard. Sanders doesn't help with building long term pieces here; at worst it could be a major headache for developing the rest of our team. He should go to a team where he can be a backup and help fight for the playoffs. Even the Lakers or Knicks would be better than us because they have aging stars that want to win now. If he has a great year we could look at him in free agency depending on how the rest of our team is being built.
How is it that you argue in favor of Henderson potentially being a long-term piece, but in opposition to Sanders?
I find this notion of Sanders being old funny. He's 1.5yrs older than Dame and Plums. Not really aging in any sense of the word.
