Nets Trade Allen Crabbe, No. 17, 2020 FRP To Hawks For Cap Space, Taurean Prince Jun 6, 2019 4:50 PM The Brooklyn Nets have traded Allen Crabbe, the No. 17 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and a protected first round pick in 2020 to the Atlanta Hawks for Taurean Prince and a 2021 second round pick. The Nets now have two max contract slots in free agency. Atlanta now owns the eighth, tenth and 17th picks in the draft.
Not much of a risk IMO. Prince = Crabbe #17 Pick = $15M in cap space It's the 2020 pick that's somewhat risky. It depends upon the protections given.
Hawks building some draft capital to go along with their young core in Trae Young and John Collins. It'll be interesting seeing how their plan unfolds. Will they possibly parlay their 3 first round picks into something larger? We'll see.
I like what the Hawks did. Like Portland, they are not likely to ever be big players in FA, so they need to be assertive about exploring other options.
Their scouting is pretty tremendous, so they must be certain they are getting two max free agents or they wouldn't have given up that no. 17 pick. Unless they are sure everyone below lottery is crap.
Not sure this is the right draft to go so heavy in on as there just isn't a ton of value after the first few picks. If they can parlay them into a better pick then maybe, but if not, then it will be somewhat of a crap shoot.
Giving up Russel to sign an older, injured riddled Kyrie to a billion dollars contract would be incredibly dumb imo.
