Minnesota child-sex sting results in 58 arrests, state says

April 10 (Reuters) - Minnesota authorities arrested 58 people accused of attempting to solicit children for sex or for trafficking in a sting operation staged during the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament, state authorities said on Wednesday.

The sting, which resulted in the rescue of 28 victims from trafficking situations, including one minor, occurred Friday through Monday as undercover agents posed as minors or as sex buyers and chatted with suspects on social media platforms. Investigators arrested the suspects as they arrived at an arranged meeting place for an encounter, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

Those arrested were not part of a single sex-trafficking ring, Jill Oliveira, a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension with the Department of Public Safety, said.

"These were separate instances where they either responded to undercover officers posing as sex buyers or undercover officers posing as minors," Oliveira said.

Thousands of college basketball fans converged on Minneapolis last weekend to see the semifinal and final rounds of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's men's championship, won this year by the University of Virginia.

A total of 47 people were booked on felony charges of solicitation of a minor or solicitation of prostitution with someone under 16 years of age, while another 11 were booked on probable cause of sex trafficking and promotion of prostitution, the agency said.

"This operation is an example of the aggressive steps necessary to stop traffickers and johns who buy and sell people for sex in our communities," said Drew Evans, superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Obviously, the government has made a mistake since a close friend of Trump was among those arrested.
Anyhow, the whole stinky thing has Biden's fingerprints all over it. I'm sure he's implicated somehow even if we have to manufacture the how.

 

By now it's clear the Deep State will run Creepy Joe Biden, possibly because he's the only candidate they own. The 23 clowns in a car is just a non-threatening side diversion so libs won't waste time analyzing (or even learning about) Creepy Joe on his record.

Then he will be anointed at the Primary as Hillary was.

But his chances are gone before he started, as calls for investigations start to mount, and I doubt he'll still be running by the end of the year.

Frankly, I was surprised he'd run knowing his family was already so exposed back in 2016 on so many fronts and involved in shady pay-for-play deals with China.

Chinese authorities are harnessing a vast and secretive system of advanced facial recognition technology in order to control and surveil the Uighurs, a largely Muslim minority, according to a new report.

Facial recognition technology, which is under fire from racial justice advocates and tech workers in the United States, has the potential to allow the easy targeting and profiling of communities through the lens of race and gender.

Based on interviews with five people who have direct knowledge of the systems, along with a review of databases used by the police, government procurement documents, and advertising materials distributed by the AI companies making the systems, The New York Times uncovered the first known example of a government intentionally using artificial intelligence for racial profiling.

The Uighurs had already been targeted by Chinese authorities in the western region of Xinjiang with tools of surveillance, including tracking people's DNA, but these newly revealed systems allow officials to target the largely Muslim minority in up to 16 different provinces and regions across China.

According to the Times, a group of new startups is catering to the authoritarian country's appetite for surveillance and control.

"Take the most risky application of this technology, and chances are good someone is going to try it," Clare Garvie, an associate at the Center on Privacy and Technology at Georgetown Law, told the Times. "If you make a technology that can classify people by an ethnicity, someone will use it to repress that ethnicity."

The debate in America over the use of AI has mostly centered around the bias of the people designing the technology. Internal systems used by Amazon's HR department, for example, ended up rejecting basically all resumes that were submitted by women. Amazon workers and some lawmakers have called for the company to stop marketing and selling its AI software to police departments in the U.S. over fears about racial bias and potential misuse.

The surveillance technology being used in China is also a big business, according to the Times, which reports that four of the companies behind the AI are each valued at more than $1 billion. With the potential for more profits to be made, there's a concern among advocates that the type of systems used in China could find their way into other countries.

"I don't think it's overblown to treat this as an existential threat to democracy," Jonathan Frankle, an AI researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told the Times. "Once a country adopts a model in this heavy authoritarian mode, it's using data to enforce thought and rules in a much more deep-seated fashion than might have been achievable 70 years ago in the Soviet Union. To that extent, this is an urgent crisis we are slowly sleepwalking our way into."

An investment fund backed by Hunter Biden, son of 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden, invested in a surveillance system used to spy on Muslims in China, a new report claims.

The former vice president has been facing scrutiny over his son’s business dealings in Ukraine and other countries, with reports focusing on Hunter Biden’s role in the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings.

The company employed the younger Biden as a board member as the U.S. and the Obama administration were mulling a course of action amid Russia's invasion in Eastern Ukraine. Biden also apparently threatened the Ukrainian president to fire a prosecutor who happens to have been investigating corruption of Burisma.

But Hunter’s investments go farther to the east, drawing scrutiny over his involvement in China amid a controversy over his father’s dismissive comments on the campaign trail about the potential threats China poses to the U.S.

According to the Intercept, Hunter’s investment company in China, known as Bohai Harvest RST, invested in Face++, a technology used by the Chinese government to introduce a mass surveillance state and spy on its citizens.

The technology has been used to spy on Muslims in China’s western province of Xinjiang, where an estimated 1 million Muslims are held in “re-education” camps, providing authorities access to data that shows personal information such as their religious activity, blood type and usage of utilities.

The U.S. government on Friday criticized China’s mass detention of Muslims.

“The (Chinese) Communist Party is using the security forces for mass imprisonment of Chinese Muslims in concentration camps,” Randall Schriver, who leads Asia policy at the U.S. Defense Department, said during a briefing, according to Reuters. He added that the number of detained Muslims could be “closer to 3 million citizens.”

The company also consists of a network of other funds that make other investments, making Hunter Biden an influential businessman in China, according to the outlet, which somewhat explains Bohai Harvest’s dependence on an international subsidiary of the state-owned Bank of China to finance its investments.

The revelation comes as Biden caught flak on the campaign trail after expressing lack of concern over China as a global competitor to the U.S. and mocked those taking the Chinese threat seriously at a rally on Wednesday.

“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man!” Biden exclaimed. “The fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the East -- I mean in the West. They can't figure out how they're going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. They're not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they're not competition for us.”

Reacting to those remarks, President Trump said Biden was among many politicians who were “naïve” regarding China.

“For somebody to be so naive, and say China's not a problem – if Biden actually said that, that's a very dumb statement,” Trump said.

Newly submitted court documents link Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden, to an identity theft case from 2016 when he was allegedly being checked into an unidentified Arizona facility.

The court papers were filed Monday in an Arkansas court as part of a paternity battle over a child the Hunter Biden shares with Lunden Roberts, who met the scandal-plagued businessman at a Washington, D.C., stripclub where she worked. While the question of whether or not Biden is a father is no longer an issue — a DNA test confirmed he is the baby's father — the parents are at odds over issues such as child support.

The two-page document, titled “Notice of Identity Theft,” was submitted by D&A Investigations Inc., a firm owned by private investigator Dominic Casey, who once did work for Casey Anthony, a Florida woman who was accused of killing her daughter.

Casey, who has requested to be named an intervener in the paternity case, alleged there is a history of using stolen identities to conceal Biden’s location. But the court papers do not specifically identify Biden as the person who committed identity theft.

The court papers, which cite a Prescott, Ariz., police report, describe what allegedly happened on the morning of Oct. 28, 2016, when a Hertz rental car employee reportedly received a phone call around 10 a.m. and subsequently discovered "suspicious" items inside one of the rental cars.

“Stolen identities were used to check defendant Robert Hunter Biden into an Arizona facility and providing false statements to the Prescott Police Department,” the document states. “These stolen identities include his deceased brother Joseph R. Beau Biden III, and Joseph McGee.”

An attorney for Biden, whose fullname is Robert Hunter Biden, did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment. His brother, who went by Beau Biden, died in 2015.

The Hertz employee, who is only identified by her first name, “had received a call from Joseph McGee stating his friend was sick, and left the vehicle overnight with the keys in the gas cap area because they did not know what to do,” the document states.

Several items were also found, according to the court papers.

“A bag containing the suspicious items, a cellular telephone (Apple) belonging to Shauna Stanglr, who is also known as Puma St. Angel, and a Delaware Attorney General badge belonging to Hunter Biden's deceased brother Joseph R. Beau Biden III were provided to the police officer," the court papers state.

The papers identify Puma St. Angel as the co-founder of Grace Grove at Rejuvenation & Performance Institute in Sedona, Ariz., a self-described "lifestyle center" staffed with on-site therapists and coaches. It is not clear from the documents if this is the facility that Hunter Biden attended.

Three days later, when police dialed the phone number that had previously called the Hertz center on Oct. 28, 2016, the woman who answered the phone and identified herself as Puma. She said "Joseph" would return the call.

St. Angel denied any involvement and declined to comment when reached by FOX Business on Monday morning.

Casey had previously accused Biden of being involved in a separate counterfeiting scheme that accumulated more than $156 million, according to court papers submitted on Dec. 23 and Dec. 27.

The paternity case has been covered extensively by the media as Roberts, Casey and a separate proposed intervener have called for Biden to reveal his finances, including all forms of his income. In court papers filed Dec. 18, Roberts, through attorneys, argued Biden had failed to answer multiple questions regarding his finances.

Biden "has provided no support for this child for over a year,” Dec. 18 court papers state. “The Court should not let the defendant continue to avoid his natural and legal duty to support his child by failing to provide basic information about his income, finances, and lifestyle.”

If he ultimately cooperates during his upcoming hearing, Biden could potentially discuss his financial records while under oath, including those related to his involvement in Ukrainian company Burisma Holdings, which is connected to President Trump's impeachment.

Biden was reportedly named a paid board member of Burisma in April 2014. The company's founder was a political ally of Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's Russia-friendly president, who was driven out in February 2014. Yanukovych's ouster prompted the Obama administration to move quickly to deepen ties with Ukraine's new government. Joe Biden, the vice president at the time, played a leading role. He traveled to Ukraine and spoke frequently with its new Western-friendly president, Petro O. Poroshenko.

President Donald Trump’s July phone call with recently elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which he allegedly pressured the president to work with Rudy Giuliani, a former associate U.S. attorney general and White House lawyer, to investigate Joe Biden, Trump's potential rival in a presidential election later this year, and Hunter Biden, lies at the center of the impeachment push.

The House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in December, in a vote that was castalong party lines on charges of obstruction and abuse of power.

A hearing for the paternity casewas scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Independence County, Ark.

Russians hacked Burisma Holdings in early November, US cybersecurity company says

Russian agents launched a phishing campaign in early November aimed at stealing the login credentials for employees of Burisma Holdings, the gas company, according to Area 1 Security, a Silicon Valley company that specializes in e-mail security.

Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. vice president and Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden, previously served on Burisma's board.

It was not clear from an eight-page report posted online by Area 1 what the hackers were looking for or may have obtained. Company officials did not immediately respond to e-mailed questions. The timing of the operation suggests, however, that the Russian agents could be searching for material that could damage the Bidens.
