I didn't see a thread on this but if there is one my apologies.

Reddit (m'lady) has uncovered some information about Chad Ford--that he goes back and changes his draft predictions based on how well players do in the NBA, even years later. He (or someone on his behalf) makes ghost edits to the old web pages and improves his predictions.

If you recall he had Damien Lillard going eighth in 2012. If you went and looked at his old draft board before yesterday, Lillard was ranked fourth.

Since this came to light ESPN has reverted all the boards back to their original predictions. No comment from Ford thus far.

I like how they tried to be (kinda) all sly about it and not put the people in the exact spots they should be in. Just fudge a little. Almost makes it worse.

The Source did this too. They gave Jay-Z's reasonable doubt like 3 mics, but then afterwards changed it to 5 mics.

What a stupid thing to do, you can't go to the bathroom without people knowing now with the internet. ESPN is a joke anyway, this is just another punchline.

I saw this on Reddit last night. Pretty funny.

I know Chad. I haven't talked to him in a long time, but he got me a job with ESPN back in 2001. Honestly, I think this was about trying to stay relevant. He pretty much only reports on the draft. He put himself in that niche because he wasn't a particularly good writer. The guy really isn't much different than any of us. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time when the internet boom happened. He and his buddy started a website called sportstalk.com and they reported on rumors. Chad was a lawyer living in Hawaii. He didn't have any experience as a journalist. When the internet crash happened, sportstalk crumbled and ESPN offered Chad a huge contract to come work for them. At the time he was considered the Woj of that day. He broke a lot of rumors. After moving to ESPN he focused more on the draft. He was really heavily into Euro scouting and his big move was Darko. That failed gloriously.

I think he has been slowly becoming less and less credible over the years, and this is the culmination of it all. I don't see why ESPN would renew his contract.

Fourth still isn't high enough, shame on Revisionist Ford. I'll go to my grave repeating what was painfully obvious leading up to the draft: a) Lillard was the #2 prospect behind The Brow, and b) Drummond would be a productive starter right away.

I never look at Ford's predictions. Any draft info I get is from DraftExpress.

Statement on changes to Chad Ford’s NBA Draft prospect rankings

After reviewing the post on Reddit today, we have found that changes were made manually to Chad Ford’s NBA Draft prospects rankings. We have not been able to determine who made the changes, or when. We have talked to Chad Ford, who strongly denies any involvement, and based on his past work and professionalism, we believe him. Our review will continue but it is unclear at this time if we will be able to ascertain who was responsible.

To be fair, though, changing his old draft boards would be child's play next to, say, taking down a movie studio.

Even if he were completely innocent of any wrongdoing, it's his writing, his track record. If he had any integrity at all he should have known about the issue and forced ESPN to fix it. So he's either really stupid, really lazy or highly unethical. Most people are guessing unethical, but to be fair it could be any of those three or some combination.

ESPN is clearly lying. I guarantee they have logs that show any changes that are made to an article that was posted online. I used to have an ESPN login and you can bet they would know that it was me if I had changed those articles. I would always wager that not every schmuck has the permissions to edit articles on the website. He did it. He got caught. They don't want to admit it.
