Here is the latest: We've sold Armand Traore to QPR (confirmed/Arsenal.com) for about £1.5m. We've purchased André Santos from Fenerbahçe (unconfirmed) for about £6m. We've purchased Park Chu-Young from Monaco (unconfirmed) for about £3m. We've traded Nicklas Bendtner to Stoke for Thomas Sørensen and cash (unconfirmed). We've signed Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen for about £8m (unconfirmed). Developing.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) The Mertesacker rumour has legs. Supposedly the deal was arranged last night and the player has flown to London today to sort it. A three year contract is being offered to replace the remaining year he has on his deal with WB. Mertesacker is exactly the kind of defender we needed.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Not impressed with the Stoke deal. Why not Werder Bremen? I think they wanted him. Maybe Bendtner's father was blowing smoke--hard to imagine I know. If Stoke is his best option, nobody took him serious. No reason to deal with Stoke, especially for a 35-year old keeper. What about Fabianski?
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Still waiting on news in the midfield. A boost at the back is tremendous but we're still lacking creativity and passing going forward. Arteta would be fine--hopefully we can pull the trigger on that one. All these veterans, amazing.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Work permit issues are holding up the Santos deal; they will should be sorted quickly.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Mertesacker is WB's vice-captain with 75 caps for Germany. Park Chu-Young is South Korea's captain with 50+ caps. Santos is 28 and has a couple dozen caps for Brazil. We're actually bringing in guys who are leaders with age and experience. Finally.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Traore has pleaded with QPR fans not to judge him on his performance on Sunday. Go ahead and judge him on any of his Arsenal performances as he never really showed much. Harsh but true--there is a reason he was sold.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) It goes without saying that Stoke probably can't afford to sign Bendtner outright, necessitating a swap plus deal and making the rumour more credible. Problem being we seem to be rewarding a team that has done us wrong, strengthening them quite a bit, and taking back bits and pieces. Not really a Wenger type of deal is it? Especially since I think Bendtner scoffed at Stoke rumours earlier this summer.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Counting chickens... Szczęsny (Fabianski) Sagna (Jenkinson), Mertesacker (Djourou), Vermaelen (Koscielny), Santos (Gibbs) Song (Frimpong), Rosicky (Diaby) Walcott (Arshavin), Wilshere (Ramsey), Gervinho (Park) Van Persie (Chamakh) Oxlade-Chamberlain, Miyachi, Eastmond, Mannone/Sorensen/Almunia, Squillaci, Coquelin, Lansbury, Miquel
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) ^ Clearly need some extra help in the midfield. Can't rely on Rosicky and Wilshere to be our entire supply. Swapping Rosicky out for Arteta makes a ton of sense. Obviously Kaka would've been nice but that won't happen.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Good thread. Low has confirmed that he has let Mertesacker leave the German outfit to perform a medical in London.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) I don't think Rosicky will be in the starting team, speeds. Probably Song-Wilshere-Ramsey, no?
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-to-sign-striker-chu-young-park Park transfer confirmed by Arsenal. We haven't had a true #9 for a long time. This could be a fantastic signing.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) We have signed Mertesacker, Park, and Santos for 1 Downing or half of a Carroll.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/traore-agrees-terms-with-queen-s-park-rangers] Traore's departure has been confirmed. Believed to be around £1.2m.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Gervinho - £10.5m Mertesacker - £9m Chamberlain - £7m Santos - £6m Park - £2.5m Jenkinson - £1m Campbell - £1m Good stuff so far.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Chu Young Park (or Park Chu-Young), who would rather be known as Ju Young.
Re: Eleventh hour transfer thread (breaking news on new players) Wenger does good business but I don't think anyone would be complaining if he'd gone out and overspent on Hazard, Gourcuff, etc.. Andy Carroll's transfer fee was an aberration. Newcastle put one over on Pool, there.
