Such a great hire. The C's started later in the process and already hit a home run. I just really don't trust Olshey to make this decision ...
It appears Brad Stevens might already be a better GM than Olshey and he's only been on the job for a few weeks!
The bar doesn't seem very high. 2016 and 2017 back to back were just about two of the worst off-seasons a GM could come up with.
After some recent racial tensions surrounding an ex player stomping on the logo in Boston...that city has a reputation as being very, very white and fairly racist. Stevens said just before hiring Ime that they wanted to hire a black coach...I think it's part of why Ainge left and Stevens went into the front office gig....Boston wanted to change that image and show diversity. I think Portland has that in mind as well which is why I think Billups is and probably always was our first choice. Not saying right or wrong but it does seem to be clearly possible that Ime and Chauncey have known they were getting the jobs before any of this even hit the media...I think Cuban hires Becky Hammon...it's the kind of splashy hire he'd make and maybe repair some of the recent chaos in Dallas.
I didn't love the trade for Boston, but I see the reasoning behind it. Time will tell what they do with that additional flexibility. Hopefully it's more than we got for the expiring contracts of Harkless, Turner, Meyers, Crabbe, and everyone else we signed in 2016.
So, you're giving Stevens the benefit of the doubt, and then making some reference to Olshey's worst offseason. Textbook bias. Again, if Olshey made that sort of trade, he'd be crucified.
Unfortunately it should already be the case but having grown up with the civil rights marches we are not there yet by a long stretch....in Boston's case it was stimulated by the Kyrie Irving incident with the Irish logo.....stupid I know but most touring entertainers in many fields see Boston as a pretty racist city. Yeah...we should all get over racism and sexism ...yet apparently many people haven't....until people have the collective maturity to see each other as actual equals..this will be an issue in the workplace as well as other fields....sucks I know..the media is not talking about many first time coaches getting interviewed but they're all over the Becky Hammon possibility...that speaks for itself...they've made her gender a topic of conversation about a job qualification....something that should never happen....one reason I've read is..."will male players adapt to a female coaching them".....if we were past it...nobody would say anything like this...personally I don't care what race gender or sexual identity someone has if they apply for a job. Jody Allen has been accused of multiple sexual harrassment situations with body guards and staff...she paid them off....now when a black man has that backstory it raises all kinds of flags....not so in Jody's story.
probably a better term....although if you google her and Tony Parker you might use the term "sex"....thank you for the correction though, I fixed it
Honestly i was just playing with words and poking fun at the politically correctness of it all. Can we have a "Gender Neutral" coaching discussion? Yes this is another joke. I think you guys use green font somehow here?
