I think he does Howard Duncan James Bryant Rose And if / when he does - does this mean he's officially the best point guard in the NBA ? Or does he also have to win MVP as well?
Many would argue Duncan didn't even deserve to be an all-star, much less an all-NBA 1st teamer. 1st teamers are for the best statistical seasons, imo.
Rose is probably going to win MVP. I would give it to Dwight, but it seems like Rose is the favorite. I think he's a lock for first team all nba.
Well, last season the first team didn't have a point guard on it (Bryant and Wade) and the second team had 2 (Nash and Williams), so I'm not sure whether there's anything "official" that comes from the distinction. I'm afraid that whatever happens on that front, the debate will continue.
I think he has as good a shot of making it as anyone else. I doubt Duncan will be 1st team this year. The Spurs have been great, but All-NBA is usually reserved for statistical dominance and individual performance. All-star nominations are the Valentines given out for being on a winning team.
I'd be surprised if Duncan even makes all-NBA third team (pending on whether or not he's listed as a C or PF)
Duncan better not be on all NBA first team. He's been very average this year. Rose should be on the 1st team and I think he should be the MVP, as well.
Aren't the Spurs on track to win an absurd number of games? I don't think that'd happen if Duncan was very average
Didn't really want to turn this into a Duncan thread but a few things .... Take Duncan off the Spurs this season and they are a lower seed playoff team if they're lucky ( say #7 or #8 ) The AllStar game is the gaudy stat stuffer Valentine / popularity contest . How else could you explain Yao being voted in when he doesn't even play and those that continued to be voted in long after their greatness had passed ( see Vince Carter and Allen Iverson ) Its because of the fact that most "fans" know dick and don't correlate greatness to winning success that the Coach vote tries to even it up a bit for those where a case can be made for their deservation. But these selections aren't necessarily all NBA types. I agree that on face value Durant ( not a power foward by the way ) is a more dazzling talent and that Duncan was never flash ...but there is a reason he's known as the big fundamental. You could also make a case for Amare as well this season as 1st team all NBA. The rationale in the selection of my starting 5 is that outside of Dwight Howard who you have to have given he is the most dominant big man in the game ....the other 4 are all from teams whose teams are amongst the 5 best records in the league and where these principals are the key reasons as to why there teams are there. That has to mean something. At least it does to me.
Take Durant off OKC, Take Rose off Chicago, Take Dwight off Orlando, Take Kobe off the Lakers...These are all great players, this is not an argument you can use... Agreed, but by this are you trying to compare Durant to Yao? I hope not. Who was the PF on the All-NBA team last year? While you're at it, who was the PG? They choose 2 guards, 2 forwards and a center. Sometimes there's no SF, sometimes no PF. and theres a reason he earned that title 10 years ago and not 2011. Over Dwight? No. So who do you elect from Boston, then? They have the best record in the East, no? Nobody on that team deserves it for the same reason Duncan doesn't.
I think I'd go with the consistent logic in your other selections and take KG over Howard. I know Howard is great and all, but is he really that much more dominant than say, Amare, Durant, Gasol, or statistically, even Kevin Love. He's got some pretty big flaws in his game, and I think if push comes to shove, I'd rather have KG. While a dbag, I think Garnett would outsmart and outplay Howard.
