VITALS: 6-6, 200, senior, Brigham Young

OVERVIEW: Hansen emerged out of the Portsmouth Invitational on the all-tournament team and followed that up with an impressive showing in Chicago at the pre-draft camp. Hansen played three seasons at Brigham Young and led the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament last year after tying for the Western Athletic Conference title. He averaged 16.8 points and 2.4 assists last season, turning in a 21-point performance in an NCAA Tournament loss to Connecticut. The 6-6 guard reminds many observers of Jon Barry, although Hansen shot just 34 percent from beyond the arc last season. Hansen demonstrated unusual strength for a guard at the pre-draft camp and appears to be strong enough to defend NBA wing players. Hansen was forced to have numerous tattoos removed before enrolling at BYU, which has a strict code of conduct.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Hansen got his invitation to the Chicago pre-draft camp after an outstanding performance in the Portsmouth Invitational, in which he was especially prolific from 3-point range in the tournament's final game. Once in Chicago, he broke the camp record in the four-cone drill, which measures a prospect's lateral quickness, and also recorded a 38-inch vertical leap. Those results, combined with an outstanding performance in the bench press test, could have moved Hansen into the first round. Boston (20), Detroit (25), Memphis (27), New Orleans (18) and San Antonio (28) are possible suitors.

COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Bob Sura, Michael Redd

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Sam Jacobsen

    ROLE PROJECTION: Reserve guard.

POSITIVES: Hansen could be one of the five best athletes in the draft. At 6-6, that ability can go along way in the NBA, with 2-guards such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Jerry Stackhouse and Vince Carter building the foundation for their success on their athleticism and size. Hansen has a chance to make it in the league.

SHORTCOMINGS: Hansen is a hot-and-cold shooter who is going to have trouble ever finding a consistency from the perimeter because of his technique. A shooting guard who cannot shoot is like a surgeon without a scalpel. Hansen's age of 25 he spent two years on a Mormon mission after his freshman year at BYU - may also be a source of worry for teams in the draft.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "Travis helped himself by coming to Portsmouth. That was the key for him. Where he falls in the draft, I don't know. He's athletic. Hansen may not be as athletic as some of the other guys, but he can shoot better than them." NBA assistant director of scouting Ryan Blake
