Drexler was a great Blazer and all. But, all the impressions I've had of him as a person are that he's kind of a douche and not a very good teammate. Not that congeniality really matters in the NBA.
That's ok, I'm still bitter about that 92 All-Star MVP too. Stopped watching the All-Star Game after that.
3 times. Kelly Dwyer is an awful writer, and comments after many of his articles say so. He admits he was 11 at the time, yet is condescending, claiming that Drexler was wrong about all his impressions. Dwyer says that Aids being a death sentence then was just a false general impression.
Ha, Ha. That's hilarious. Clyde is no diplomat. And Clyde was also the MVP of that All Star Game by a long shot. That guy needs to watch the game again. And 'meaningless'? Really? It's not 'meaningless' to the player who earns his way into the all star game, then earns the MVP. I'm sure the highest honor in that guys profession is also 'meaningless'.
That really stuck out to me too. It was a death sentence in most cases. And a pretty gruesome one. The full weight of medical research that was marshalled against it has greatly improved the prognosis of those with HIV.
What Drexler said is true. Johnson was declining even before the Aids and had become a caricature. The 11 year old uses PER to say Drexler wasn't there, as a 1st hand observer. Kelly Dwyer is often accused by commenters of really being a woman. He's a know it all who knows nothing. He always puts himself into a situation of condescendingly feeling superior to those far superior to him. Most of his articles put someone down in a bemused mood, acting like the subject isn't worth his time. There's never any depth of interest. Writing seems like his hobby, which he impatiently wants to avoid.
Magic was a douche, is a douche, and will always be a douche. But, he was a hell of a basketball player so he gets a pass from most.
I don't know if you guys knew this, but the Lakers beat Portland in 1991. Maybe I should mention that 3 times within 2 paragraphs.
I fucking loved Glide's comments. It's not often he puts on his L*ker Hater hat--he seems to identify more with Houston than Portland--but it's nice to know he still carries a bit of that chip that all Blazers should have. Fuck M*gic and fuck the L*kers.
There is no way in 1992 that I thought Magic would still be alive today. AIDS was basically viewed as a death sentence back then, primarily because the media and the AIDS 'community' used scare tactics to get people to donate money for AIDS research. As recently as 2006, much more federal money was being spent on AIDS research than was being spent on cancer research. http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/is...g_really_four_to_one_over_federal_cancer_res/
Hi, Snake. Just wondering...what do you care for? Any hobbies or interests? What do you do with your spare time?
Clyde gift-wrapped that MVP award for Magic, and anyone watching the game knew Clyde deserved it but that it was pre-decided that Magic would get it. I seriously doubt Clyde said anything resembling what the "author" claims he said. He doesn't even speak like that.
Since the author claims no tape backup, he may have quickly taken rough notes, and inaccurately transcribed them many days later. Causes of inaccuracy might be reliance upon memory, and desire to make phrasing more direct and colorful. Drexler is indirect and refined.
