I have not always agreed with his takes or give him much credibility after his coverage of the Batum contract with Minnesota. However, his radio show is pretty good. Great guests and not too many times I change the channel during his time slot. He had another person that not many like, Peter Vescey, and it was great. PV called Stan Van Gundy the dumbest Van Gundy brother over his NCAA being racist rant.
I've been pleasantly surprised by their show as well. I posted the following about 6 weeks ago. Fentress' need to claim that he "dominated" people in arguments is still annoying, but he does it good naturedly enough that it doesn't bother me too much.
I'm actually amazed how well Jaynes has done on television and radio. I remember meeting him when he was younger. He was a lot more.... uhhh "in your face" and "don't give a fuck." But age has mellowed him somewhat but you still get a good line and that same old sportswriter jibe. The Blazers could do a lot worse.
Will Cain followed with my thoughts and why I think PV is correct in this case. The one and done rule was put in place by the NBA and the Players Association. Billy Hunter was the president at that time and an employee of a majority black union. There is absolutely no racism from the NCAA on the one and done rule since it is not their rule.
You couldn't pay me to listen to Dwight or Crapzano's radio show. It'd be torture. Both are clueless.
Not usually a fan of Will Cain, but on this topic he was.....more right than Max. Hockey and baseball do not make any money for the NCAA. Why they are used as an example in this racism debate makes very little sense to me. The NCAA wants to protect their Golden Goose. The only color they care about is green. Which of course is not right, but it does not make them racist.
Another reason I see the NBA as a major instigator of the 1 and done rule is that it covers the GMs asses. If they don't have a wide open draft, they don't have to spend as much on scouting, the cream rises to the top.... player personnel can cut down on errors in the draft and it protects their jobs. If they had a three or four round draft of players that went to the G league (like baseball) it would mean a more wide open and delayed result approach to acquiring talent.
Fuck Will Cain. I can't stand that fool and I think he's completely wrong on this subject. Every time he opens his mouth something that annoys me flies out.
That's a statement borne of ignorance. I assumed Jaynes' show would be terrible, but I listened to it with an open mind and was converted. I understand not wanting to listen to him, but to assume that "it'd be torture" is simply not correct.
