"Oliver Perez already is a candidate to be released before Opening Day, and Luis Castillo hasn't shown much to believe he isn't a possibility to face a similar fate.

Castillo, entering the final year of a four-year $25 million contract, served as the Mets' DH in Friday's 4-3 win over the Marlins, going hitless in three at-bats.

Manager Terry Collins has said he plans to trim the number of those vying for the starting second base job by the Mets' off-day on March 14.

Justin Turner, who has minor-league options remaining, got his first start at second Friday and went 1-for-3 (infield single). Rule 5 draft selection Brad Emaus and Daniel Murphy also are battling for the starting job."
