There is a poll at the bottom of http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-081113 that asks how many points do you think Greg Oden will average. The results: 53% think Oden will average 0-10 points. 44% think 11-15 pts. And only THREE PERCENT think that Oden will average more than 15 points. Ouch.
Why is that so surprising to you? Greg has a very raw, undeveloped post game, and is probably going to take a few years to develop his hook and other low post moves. My guess before the season even began was about 12 points in his rookie year. Besides, who gives a shit. Greg's biggest contributions are going to come on the defensive end of the court where he blocks shots, controls the paint and gobbles up rebounds.
Greg will average at least 12 pts a game on put backs alone... I just hope teams continue to double team him on the low block ... it opens up so much for our offense.
That's about right. I thought Oden might avg around 14 points a game before getting injured again. I now think he will maybe get 10-11 ppg at the most. I still think he will have a good year after he gets in shape and learns to fit into our offense. That's if Greg can stay healthy.
I dunno, 0-10 points off the bench will be great. Right now Greg is all about defense. His offense is much further away than I thought it would be
His offense will look much better once he catches his breath and gets into a quick spin move. We already saw some of those in the pre-season when he was starting to get in game shape. First game after another lengthy off. It will come and it will not be years for it to come.
Once we see Greg get his legs under him, he'll easily get 10 pts a game. The guy has barely played basketball in a year and half. Within 2 weeks we'll see a very different player. I actually thought he looked good. His timing was off or he would have had more rebounds and a couple of more blocks. Dumbasses at 95.5 are ripping him for his measely stats last night. Amazes me they allow these idiots to do talk radio. Anyone who has sat out a year and not played a sport and then tried to play again realize it takes time to get your game back.
IMO we didn't draft Greg for offense. He is a defensive player 1st and his offense will come later. We have scorers. Greg can clean up messes as we saw with that dunk.
I don't about you guys, but his 2 blks last night were the 2 BEST blocks I've seen by a player in a Blazer uni since Jerome!
Really? Personally I think just this year Batum has had better blocks than Oden's. I'm waiting for that rejection on an Amare, Dwight or Bynum type dunk . . .
You want honesty, here it is: Right Now: Greg sucks, definitely underwelming. He's not a great Defensive player. His +/- is negative. Wade just drove into him, getting a foul. Why? Because Greg is slow. By the All-star game: Greg = Bynum By the end of the season: Greg > Bynum I don't think many of us Blazer fans like the truth, now. Don't think many Laker fans are going to like it soon!!
