Sounds like we're going to have a 3 man rotation at guard. Stotts has implied that Turner will be our backup PG. He can certainly improve the defense there. And that makes sense in that it would open up playing time for Charlotte and Crabbe.
He's no PG, a point forward maybe. Playing him as the only PG would simply not work. He would have to bring the ball up-court, etc, not gonna work
Evan Turner can play point guard, and play it pretty well actually. He'll absolutely be a great backup point guard. WAY better than CJ. http://archive.boston.com/sports/ba...in_starting_point_guard_role_in_win_over.html http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...d-play-proving-hes-not-traditional-nba-player
Not sure how much Turner you've seen, but he's very comfortable bringing the ball up floor. Besides his time in the NBA, he was a PG for part of his HS career and was the primary ball handler throughout his time at Ohio State. His had more experience as a lead guard than CJ even...
Good to hear. A 3 guard rotation is what I have been listing in all my projected rotation breakdowns. Essentially ET will be playing SG with either Dame or CJ, but will help run the offense. Instead of calling him a point forward like some do with Nic, just call him a point SG. This makes the most sense as it allows Moe to start at SF, with Crabbe backing him up.
I had thought Turner would start at the 3 leave early and come back in as the backup point guard...then CJ would also take some time at PG. But, playing him in a 3 guard rotation, with Hark and Crabbe at the 3 makes sense too...I have a hunch we will be seeing Stotts try both of these options
"Turner, despite his 6-foot-7 frame, has a history of playing point guard. He said he didn't hit his first big growth spurt until he sprouted five inches as a freshman in high school, so he grew up playing point guard. He often ran the offense in college at Ohio State and served as the primary backup ball-handler for the Boston Celtics last season. Regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench, Turner will handle the ball plenty; Stotts said Turner will share backup point guard duties with McCollum." http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i..._harkless_evan_turner.html#incart_river_index
Not having a backup PG is our biggest weakness. CJ and Turner is not enough PG skills and if both play together everytime Dame sits it minimizes his playing time alongside them. Instead of trying to fit players to unnatural positions based on what they did or didn't do in HS, Stotts should give the backup minutes to Napier at least until we bring someone better who's a natural PG. Making all these adjustments trying to manage the minutes instead of coaching the game is exactly why Stotts is a weak coach
Huh? Did you read anybodys' posts? PG IS a natural position for him. People want to make him a small forward because of his size. That's trying to make him something he is not.
http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/ba...n-turner-will-see-time-as-backup-point-guard/ If Stotts' handling of the point guard situation last season is any indication, the Blazers likely won't lean on Turner very often as a third-string option at the position, as Damian Lillard and McCollum frequently covered all 48 minutes at the position on most nights. Instead, Stotts' comfort with Turner at the position is perhaps more troubling to Shabazz Napier, whose roster spot could be in jeopardy if the Trail Blazers decide to prioritize keeping an extra big man rather than another point guard who wouldn't normally factor into the rotation. Turner is still expected to see most of his time at small forward during the upcoming season, but will have to hold off Allen Crabbe for starting honors.
Outside of a failed attempt with Paul George, he's never played with players as good as Dame and CJ. He's gonna flourish while playing with them. lol: Dame: http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...an_turner.html#incart_river_mobileshort_index
I am a huge fan of this signing. I am looking forward to watching him play. He's a really good fit in a number of ways. I just wish his 3pt shooting was to be feared.
ET with a 36% 3pt shot is essentially Nic Batum. Then he wouldn't be an 18mil/yr player, but a 25 mil/yr player. I think this is gonna work-- I'm more ok with paying ET that kinda money than paying Crabbe the same.
If you like him, why would you want to send him to New Jersey? I wouldn't even wish that on Raymond Felton.
