Watching him play in person tonight only confirms what I have been thinking of him and the signing so far. Big bunch of nothing. A lot of money for a backup point guard. A signing by Olshey to save face and spend some of the dough he had to spend. Turner is not that good and doesn't fit our style of play. We can all see that Mo likely will and should start. I like Neil a lot, but his drafts are better than his FA signings; he's been saved by players who signed offer sheets here and were matched elsewhere (see, e.g., Roy Hibbert). Unfortunately, no one saved Olshey from himself this time.
How the hell is he a fucking backup PG? You force him into playing an unnatural position for him (only god knows why) and then are disappointed with him. He is either our starting SF or our backup SF. And the problem is with our clueless coach, fans
Also, it's cute how Preseason is used to figure out what guys can and can't do within this team, and people think it's somehow a reflection of how the team is going to be.
Reminds me of what Hurd said tonight during the game when Turner got the ball in the post. Hurd - "See he's a point guard now, he's playing point guard!" Me - So Shaq was a point guard whenever he got the ball in the post and passed to a cutter, or a shooter... Alright bro wheres my mute button.
At least Tim Frazier is really a PG, not a "we have too many SFs and not enough PGs so he's a PG". I'm sorry for the anger, I actually didn't even see the game or any games so far this season. But I know Evan Turner is not a PG. We lost the game in the 2nd quarter when we probably played just one of Dame/CJ/Napier and maybe used Evan Turner as the other guard. Just an educated guess. These 3 players are our only Guards (and Pat) and we need two guards on the floor all the time. It's that simple
You know what, it's not even Stotts it's on Olshey. We need another SG. Crabbe is ideally a SF, Turner is ideally a SF, Harkless and Aminu are both ideally PFs. We need a consolidation trade and to bring another guard
Portland has lost the last two games because they've allowed the other team to go on huge runs in the second quarter with Lillard on the bench. Vs Clippers it was 18-0, Vs Nuggets it was 19-3. But I believe it has more to do with just missing shots, and I guess I believe the limited playbook they've mentioned Portland is using right now. We'll see. Sign of encouragement though. To start the 3rd Portland had the second unit out there(CJ/Crabbe/Turner/Aminu/Davis) They took the lead after being down by 9 or 10 points at half. It seems to be coming.
Holy shit balls batman. Its pre-season. I think stotts is smart enough to evaluate how he wants the rotations to look and not give a shit about the wins. Probably letting guys get in game rhythm as well as testing chemistry between certain lineups he finds interesting.
Expect to see a lot of articles about how godawful the Turner and Crabbe deals were. You practically have to play him as a backup PG because he's not that useful without the ball in his hands. He's Tyreke Evans with a better attitude.
It's painful watching him play right now. But in Boston, it was clear that he could play. Let him figure it out over the next few months. Once he gets into a finite role with the same guys around him every time, he should be able to get acclimated. If he still has this Afflalo esque confused look in January, we need to be worried. He then suddenly becomes an 18 mil albatross contract for each of the next three years. I think he'll end up averaging about 12-5-4 this year, which is pretty damn good for a 7th man.
