...rumoured to be heavyweight kickboxer Singh "Heart" Jaideep, who has an MMA record of 1-0. Jaideep is under contract with Super Fight League in India but hasn't fought MMA since 2013. At one point he was supposed to fight Bobby Lashley but an injury forced him to withdraw. His kickboxing record is 40-10-1. He knocked out Sergei Kharitonov in 2010 in his most notable bout. Since 2012, Jaideep is 0-3 in the ring, having competed last in May of 2014, losing via TKO to a relatively unknown Turkish fighter. "Samurai MMA" is the name of the promotion, reportedly Three events in three days at the Saitama-- from the 29th to 31st of December Saku vs. Shinya Aoki will headline the show on the 29th in a fight that is especially Japanese (catch weight, grappler vs. grappler).
"RIZIN Fighting Federation", not Samurai MMA Five fighters who are affiliated, may or may not be on exclusive deals: Fedor, Saku, Shinya Aoki, Gabi Garcia, and a woman named Rena who I am not familiar with. Hopefully they aren't looking at having her fight Garcia who is listed at 93kg (205-lbs!). Rena is listed at 50kg.
You are right and I'm sure that is the idea. RIZIN is trying to get on Fuji TV. When MMA was trendy a decade ago, they packed the house. Now that it isn't so popular they might struggle to get on network again. Not to mention the whole Yakuza connection...
the real question is... does anyone really care at this point? I'm curious at best, not eager to see the fight at all.
Depends on the opponent, I think. If he fights someone semi-legitimate people will watch. If he fights a complete can, such as a well past prime Jeff Monson or Pedro Rizzo, two of his last three opponents, I think interest will be very low. Especially since the fight is happening when it's happening (early morning on New Year's Eve).
Sakakibara is trying to get fans to send in a logo for the new promotion. He's also asking them who they want to see on the card (which is six weeks away).
